Aiden laid his blanket very carefully down upon the grass, just like he was having a picnic. It was the same blanket he slept with at night that he had lugged out from Hufflepuff common room. In one arm he had Wally, his teddy bear. In the other arm he had a book called "The little hippogriff that wanted to fly". It was a small wizarding children's book with pictures on every page and a cool creature on the cover that Aiden hadn't seen before until he'd seen it looking at him from the cover at the Hogwarts library. After meeting the pygmy puffs at the Diagon Alley place he wanted to know everything about EVERY kind of magic creature.

Aiden was proud of himself, as he got the blanket all straightened out on the ground. He had done it all by himself, even though he had wanted help from a grown-up. Really he just wanted to be NEAR a grown-up. He was SUPPOSED to have a grown-up. He wasn't supposed to be alone. But nobody at school had understood that. His Mommy was NOT going to be happy about this. But that was why Aiden had chosen to go OUTSIDE instead of INSIDE because for some reason outside he felt less alone.

The small boy flopped himself down onto the blanket, and made sure Wally was nestled safe at his side. It was bright and sunny out, but that was just perfect for reading.

This is where he would lie, and read until he got sleepy, then he would nap on the grounds in the sunlight, then go inside and ask where he could get an afternoon snack. This was the schedule of things at home. Lunch at 12, Nap at two, Snack at four, Supper at six. And Aiden wanted to keep things just like that. He HAD to keep things just like that. Because he missed his home more than just about anything. And the only way he could get by was if he kept to his schedule (of just about everything besides teeth brushing, which Aiden had forgotten all about doing without supervision)

So the boy lay down and began to read.
Atlas had already been out here for a bit with a couple of old pocket watches and typewriter. Both were items he had found in storage and broom closets around the castle, covered in dust and discarded by time, and was leisurely deconstructing each with his handy dandy little screwdriver kit. He was currently working on removing each key from the keyboard when there was a shadow cast over his little work spot that was not cast by the branches and leaves on the pear tree. Straightening his hunched shoulders, the blonde looked around and spotted a newcomer to the courtyard laying out a blanket.

The Gryffindor watched for a bit, still twisting his screwdriver on the section he was working on, and squinted a bit to try and make out what sort of book the first year had in their possession. Though he was more intent on looking at the teddy bear he had brought with him. Curious. He sure hoped no one honed in on that and made him feel uncomfortable about it - which tended to be the case in his own experience. Though with Atlas that came more from his opinions and stances rather than possessions. Unless you counted his familiar, which he did not since she was not a thing.

"Mum used to read me that one," he found himself saying, his thoughts distracted by his gaze as it drifted back to the book cover and the words slipping out suddenly.

Also, hello. Maybe. If he remembered to swing back around and greet the Hufflepuff.

For now his attention went back to the keyboard and his successful retrieval of the 'Y' key. He really liked the round shape of each piece and how circular keys forced you to be more precise with your fingers' aim. Not that he was actually using this keyboard. At least not in the traditional manner.
