Repetition was a valid form of answer. Easier too, though it wasn't consistent with the way he preferred to turn a phrase.

For a long moment, Milo went quiet again, a fairly absent expression on his face, which was now turned directly towards the moose. This kept happening, possibly because of the train situation, possibly because this was the new trend, a time of great change and movement; it's the most transient time of the year. Milo didn't know yet. Didn't know much about anything in that long, empty moment.

The long, empty moment ended, but he still kept his silence a little longer, swaying lightly in the doorframe, fingers burning. Muggles knew magic, or, rather, about magic. Milo knew this to be fact, from his experience in muggle schools. He also knew that they were frightened of it whenever it actually happened in front of them. Or to them. He looked at the moose a moment longer, then directed his eyes upwards, intently regarding the lamp hanging from the compartment ceiling. Synchronised.

"My grandfather doesn't have a porch."
Moose pushed both his hands through his hair and looked down from mild annoyance. They were just repeating him. Or were they? The last bit of that didn't sound as they he was just mimicking him, perhaps that was his answer? If that was the case. Moose would definitely pay attention to the Sorting Ceremony and get this kid's name. HA! Gotcha! You will be named soon enough Lazy Sloth Boy! He lifted his head up a small smirk was creasing across Moose's lips. Then it quickly faded because he had appearances to keep up.

Then there was silence... Only not true silence. The noise from other compartments could be heard. Pretty sure he heard the name Jimothy coming from somewhere and he rubbed his now bandaged hand. Aside from the muffled and many voices coming from around the train, the movement of the train it self kept the silence at bay as well as the occasional whistle. Sloth Boy's swaying from the compartment door too, an occasional creek could be heard from the door frame.

"Well, some houses don't have porches, some do. Some have backyards, some don't. Houses vary in all shapes and sizes, and what comes with them." Now THIS was a conversation, and not some cryptic speech.
