Class certainly had seemed to fly by. And what today's lesson had most taught him... Cake decorator was not in his future. The first layer which they had been allowed creative freedom on looked... rough. He'd attempted Ravenclaw colors, and tried doing that fancy thing where frosting was melted and then poured over the top of a cake to make it have a marbled effect. But... he was thinking he used the wrong type of frosting or something, because instead of nice layers of blue and bronze... it had just combined to a murky, dark brown making it look truly entirely inedible.
And the recreating one of the layers she'd presented really did not go any differently. He'd thought the top layer looked easy enough (just black and white right?) but knowing how he already felt about fondant, he'd tried just covered the crumb layer with another layer of a white buttercream. And the black lines as well? Truly an unforgiving color. The longer he had the layer out to work on (which was awhile considering he kept scraping off the black since it looked so horrible), the meltier the white got and by the time class was mercifully dismissed, the black and white frosting had all mixed together now creating a weird gray effect. Which... sort of looked like the marbling he'd been hoping to go for earlier, except that was not what he was going for.
When Professor Applewood announced the cakes would be eaten at dinner, he physically grimaced as he looked back at both and briefly considering knocking them onto the ground er... 'accidentally'. Well... at least they were fondant free and should test decently. If anyone tried them.
Gathering his belongings, he headed towards the front with his peers, pausing to give a nod at his Professor and a polite, "Thank you, Professor Applewood. See you next class." And slipping out the door with the others.
