Violet was not at all sure that she had the least idea of how to reverse--she still had trouble turning left. And the instructions on steering were confusing to her--not that that surprised her, she had never been much good at flying. So she decided to take a lap first, to see if she could actually go backwards at all, before attempting anything with obstacles.

Looking anxiously over her right shoulder and trying not to accidentally steer her broom in the wrong direction, she began slowly moving backwards, wobbly at first, but eventually straightening out into a more-or-less straight path. Then she put on a bit more speed, hoping with all her might that she did not crash into another student.
