A shrug. That was all Nem had in the way of a response. Flamsteed had been right to doubt, except that the detachment was still more complete than that.
"A long... summer," they said, watching the corridor ahead as they walked. Without taking their eyes from it, Nem reached into their pocket and drew out two of the little metal matchstick pieces they always kept to hand, and began spinning them over and between the fingers of their left hand. "Which is to say, no longer than usual."
Nem twirled the pieces faster so that they flashed in the light, and went quiet for a moment, mentally doubling back and assessing that tone Flamsteed had used, and anything else that had been said so far. That softness, they kept clear of it. "Why is it you chose Herbology."
