"Good afternoon! I'm Colwyn but you can all call me Col if you like, I'm the shopkeeper over at Eeylops Owl Emporium," he gave everyone a warm welcoming smile. "This afternoon I have some friends here with me that will be helping me with some demonstrations on proper grooming etiquette for owls. Now typically an owl will tend to themselves fairly well but occasionally they may need a bit of help due to old age, illness or injury."
Giving a soft whistle two elf owls seemed to appear out of nowhere overheard and silently landed on the perch beside him. "Here we have Dawn and Dusk. They are a bonded pair of Elf owls. They will be helping me today. But before we start does anyone know how an owl might groom themselves or one another?" Time to get those young minds working!
Sophie listened attentively from her spot in the front. She'd never been inside Eeylops, but she'd admired the owls in the window every time she passed by with her parents during afternoon shopping trips. When Colwyn, the shopkeeper, whistled for the owls, Sophie exclaimed with the rest of the group. "Oooooh!"
At Col's question, Sophie's hand shot up in the air. Before he could even call on her, she declared, "Owls preen themselves, don't they? Where they sort of use their beaks to clean out their feathers?"
