Friends, on the other hand... it had happened more than once. What really needed to be said was that there was no such thing as safety, and that nobody can betray your trust if you don't trust them. So. Varma had broken her trust by tricking her like this. Maybe she'd feel guilty about it, but... if she was teaching them to trust nobody, that included her. Lesson learned, apparently. Was it worth it? Maybe. Maybe not.

Ash raised her eyebrow at the professor. "I can't remember." It was true, but there was also a little bit(or a lot) of sarcasm in her voice. Because while she couldn't remember what had happened, she could put two and two together. Her memory didn't just disappear like that. It didn't. She couldn't remember, but she knew.

She tilted her head. What exactly was the point of the lesson? Was it to trust nobody, including authorities and people you thought of as friends? The professor had done a brilliant job of teaching them all that. But that lesson had some unintended consequences. Was the lesson worth it, if some of them refused to ingest another potion in their life(a pity, because Ash's bruises could easily be healed with potions)? Was it really worth it? They'd all have to see. But in the moment, Ash didn't think so.

Well, the point of the lesson wasn't quite to trust nobody. That would be a bit of a broad and unfair statement for a professor to make. Rather, it was a reminder to be vigilant when it came to blindly ingesting potions, even if they were labeled. But there'd be time to discuss that objective soon. For now, Shreya simply nodded at Ashley's response. "A hallmark sign that your vial contained a Forgetfulness potion."

She was fuming, of course.

The Gryffindor took a few moments to compose herself, to make sure she hadn’t peed or anything, and then followed the instruction to go back to the starting line, her face still reading rage.

What a dumb question. “I dunno, a laughing potion? It wasn’t very funny.” Little hint of sarcasm there. The Professor had given them the wrong potions. Was this a lesson to look closer at potion properties before drinking? Sorry for trusting the Professor!!!!!

Shreya picked up on the Gryffindor's rage, but really, she had been expecting this irritation. She knew going into the lesson that she would be turning off a few students, but it was a risk she was willing to take. "Actually, it was the Tickling Tincture. The bright, bubbly yellow color and texture could have helped you come to that conclusion."

The sixth year folded her arms across her chest, her face blank of any emotions. Well, she wasn’t feeling anything but relief at the moment, anyway.

The question was an easy one for her. Claudine had already figured out hers was back when she was halfway through the course. Her Hand went up. “The Babbling Beverage. I figured that was it because I kept saying random words and sentences that didn’t make any sense.”

"True. That was a Babbling Beverage indeed," Shreya replied, giving Claudine an approving nod. At least the Slytherin elaborated a bit on her answer...and spoke without an attitude.

She understood, though. Potions wasn't just about brewing or collecting ingredients. It was about knowing their effects and the ability to identify said effects when they were in play. The latter was an area Serena needed more practice in.

"The boy over there--" she didn't know their name, "was rolling around in laugher. He could have gotten a laughing potion." Just like the Remy girl.

"Yes, it most certainly could. But it was actually a Tickling Tincture. Which is another reason why we can't rely on the effects alone to help identify a potion," Shreya answered. A point that would be explored in more detail soon.

All he wanted was to be invisible after that humiliating incident.

But someone used him to answer Professor Varma's question. Yeah, just great, more attention that he didn't want. Feeling no need to repeat the answer, he simply looked down and sulked, quietly hoping that people were not staring at him again.

Another student that seemed to be quite upset about the turn of events. Shreya knew today would be tough on the kids, though, which was why she didn't press Max for an answer. Hopefully the potion's effects were lesson enough.

Nothing she did changed how she felt either. Keeping her eyes closed, everything felt like it was spinning. When she opened her eyes, she felt like she was spinning. Spinning and tilting, flipping upside down and all around. Nothing she did helped. The nauseousness was still there. Her arm still her. Tears stung her eyes and threatened to fall were still present.

Slowly, much too slowly the dizziness began to fade away. The world around her once more was still again. Gentle blue eyes peeked opened cautiously, expecting the dizziness and nausea to return. It didn't. Very hesitantly, Dahlia sat up, biting the inside of her cheek to hide any discomfort from the pain in her arm.

Hearing Professor Varma call everyone back to the starting line and what she had to say about it, it all made sense. It made sense.. and it made her upset. This was just another learning experience. A trick. Now she can't sleep, she can't eat.. she can't trust a professor.. this was messed up. Did Varma know how messed up this was? Lia wasn't sure who she was more upset with, the women standing before them all.. or herself. She had taken the potion all on her own, she had trusted Varma. It was her fault for not paying more attention, not knowing the colors weren't right. She needed to stop being so trusting but.. even after everything.. that was still how she was.

Keeping the arm she landed on when she fell against her chest, she raised her other hand to answer the question. "Dizziness Draught. And I know this because I became dizzy right after drinking it and it's the reason I fell from the monkey bars," Lia replied evenly, her gaze fixed on the ground. Right now she felt like looking at now one.

"Good observation, Dahlia," Shreya said gently. She could tell that the girl was disturbed. And while it hurt to see the betrayal laced on some of the students' faces, Shreya knew it was only for their own good. They may not understand or accept that fact now, but unfortunately, it was the only way to learn sometimes.

He blinked, his dark eyes darting from the Professor to the obstacle course and back again. Why wasn't she giving the others an antidote? Before he had time to ask, they were moving on.*He followed Professor Varma back to the potions table, and as the others joined, he was relieved to see that the potion effects seemed to have worn off. He sidled over to Claudine, giving her a worried look as if to say, Are you okay? That potion didn't have any lasting after effects, did it?

At first Heath had been willing to give Professor Varma the benefit of the doubt, but between the vague answers to his questions, the lack of intervention, and the extremely short term effects of the potions themselves, he was 100% convinced that she'd done this intentionally. That question only confirmed what he already knew. What he didn't know was why, but it didn't matter. He wasn't a fan of using deception to prove a point, no matter what the point was. He didn't like it when Professor Rainwater had done it several terms ago, and he doesn't like it any better now! Anyway…

He examined the full potion vial in his hand, noting its bright orange color.* Already one possibility occurred to him, and his hand went up. "I think this is the forgetfulness potion," he said, holding up the vial. "The orange color matches." That and it would explain some of the effects he saw, but he didn't say that out loud so as not to embarrass anyone.

Well, Shreya wouldn't exactly call it deception. True, the labels were wrong, but one glance at glass vial would have shown the students that every potion was completely off in color and texture. She honestly hadn't expected so many students to miss it. "Correct. The cloudy appearance is also a good indicator."

"I understand that some of you may be hurt or confused. Or possibly feeling betrayed," Shreya started, her eyes sweeping over the class with sincerity. "But as you know, here at Hogwarts, there is a reason for everything we teach. And let this be an important lesson: Never rely on labels alone to identify a potion." She considered going into her lecture of "it's better to learn this now, under a controlled environment, than out in the real world with the big, bad, evil people," but figured that the students could come to that conclusion themselves. The lesson didn't have to make full sense to them now.

"You must, must, must attempt to identify a potion before you ingest it. No matter where the potion is coming from, you should always use alternative methods to determine what it is. And the more methods you can use to identify it, the better." She gestured back to the mislabeled vials on the table. "So, what are some other ways that we can identify a potion?"

OOC: Sorry for the delay! Got caught up with work stuff. You have about 24 hours for Q2.
