It was less about fitting a certain professionalism, seeing as Kaiser was the personal assistant to the Minister himself, and more about...certain external factors. The ones that still echoed in her thoughts just when she thought his voice had quieted down and disappeared entirely. But also...Elio. There was a need to make sure that she could be quick and comfortable to help make sure he did not wander off anywhere or get into anything he shouldn't. She figured Kaiser deciding to bring his son was somehow related to a not-so-subtle request from the Minister, but she also couldn't help but wonder if it were for other reasons as well.
Being back in the Ministry came attached with certain...discomforts. And while Kaiser had been back here for months already following the war....Candela had not since the day the now former Transportation head had tortured a woman right in front her Candela's own eyes. She hadn't even caught the woman's name, fear and something else crippling her and blocking much of the information out. She was rather hoping to see that woman today.
But, back to Elio, walking in hand in hand with their little embodiment of light made things feel less daunting. While a surge of protectiveness hit hard, Elio's presence was generally a positive one. She felt less afraid and less likely to dwell on these negatives with him here too.
Gently pushing some of her braids over her shoulder, Candela leaned over to make some puffy cheek silly faces at Elio while he clung to his dad's shirt. She had tried to get Kaiser to add just a little more pop of color, but once again he resisted her fashion advice. Not like she was a stylist and designer or anything. "He does," she smiled while her gaze shifted from the Minister himself back to the best friend, wondering for a moment if that was an attempt at an excuse to not go over and speak to the man. But he was leading them over that direction anyway and thus she busied herself with keeping Elio entertained while politely greeting anyone they passed.
Which was when she noticed Gunnar among the crowd and her smile brightened just a little at the familiar but somewhat nostalgic face. It had been a while, though she did still keep up with the sending of herbology related articles she thought he might find interesting whenever she came across them. Though chances were he already knew it or had read them already. She offered a wave to him and his date, Alessandro, and being innocently oblivious to the still lingering tensions between the three of them. It felt like ages since she had first sought out Gunnar after hearing about the situation between him and Kaiser and Chloe from the little sister herself, like several life times ago. But he was turning away from them and...perhaps missed it. She would make sure to say hello later seeing as it would be rude to just slip away right now.
Especially with Kaiser speaking to the new Senior Undersecretary.
The striking blonde's commentary of the Minister elicited a small laugh from Candela, one she attempted to muffle by covering her mouth with her free hand. "This is Elio," she beamed as she introduced the three-year-old while playfully wiggling her finger at his nose and wiggling it just a bit. "And I'm Candela," she added with a beam and, well, she would have offered a handshake or something but the woman's hands seemed full between plate and jabbing fork. "It's nice to meet you, Madam Senior Undersecretary. I read in the Prophet about what all you managed in the battle...thank you."
Her hand instinctively squeezed Kaiser's more severely when she felt a sudden hand on her shoulder, but the jolt of unwanted memory faded quickly enough when she saw that it was Tomasz. How she had not even felt his approach was disappointing, to herself, but she had been distracted in searching the crowd for the woman in Transportation from before the war. "He is," she chirped, her free hand moving from finger wiggling to Elio and over to the hand of Tomasz's on her shoulder for a gentle pat pat and brief affectionate rub to the back of his hand as her greeting to him.
