Violet had slipped into Divination Class just before it started, contenting herself with a verbal "Hello, Professor" (no dancing or hugging, please!"

She had never liked, or been good at, Divination, but now felt guilty for never taking Professor Kitridge quite seriously, so she was determined to give the new teacher a fair shake. But she sat stunned as the professor began talking about taking naps--was this some kind of trick? Were they really supposed to give a straight answer?

And then, when Euka started talking about dreams, Violet felt she was beginning to understand where this was going. Okay, this wasn't so bad--dreams was a legitimate topic of discussion.

"I think dreams are necessary for our brains to process all the information they've taken in during the day. I've read that people deprived of the sleep state where dreams can happen will eventually go insane. But people don't pay attention to their dreams if they don't think they're important, and if you don't write them down or talk about them to someone the minute you wake up, all the events of the day start crowding in on you, and if you try to remember your dreams later, they're all gone, like smoke."
