As excited as he was to get here, Alfie just found this boring. He thought the Sorting Ceremony would be some grand event, not just putting an old talking hat on his head. He waited patiently, and his surname wasn't that far down alphabetically, meaning he (thankfully) didn't need to wait that long. Even though he didn't look it, Alfred was super nervous. He had done some research about the houses over the holidays, but none of that helped. The house he was sorted into now would literally define how people would see him and what kind of person he was.
He began lightly tapping his foot, out of both impatience and nervousness. He crossed his arms and wondered what house fit him best. Considering what he found during his research, Slytherin would be the best fit for him, but he was also really smart, so Ravenclaw might work too. Gryffindor was okay, but didn't suit him well, while he did not fit Hufflepuff at all. "Demaret, Alfred."
Alfie was lost in his thoughts when his name was called out, so he was taken a bit by surprise and jumped a little. He walked up to the stool, acting like the little jump had never happened. He sat down, and the Sorting Hat was placed on his head. Almost instantly, he began hearing a voice in his head. "Hmm, this is an interesting one..." Interesting? In what way? "Well, for one you have features from every house. Two, you're the little Demaret, son of Kyra Williams. I remember sorting her. It was a challenge, just like it is sorting you now. You two are very alike, more than you know. Perhaps even more than you like."
Wait, it could hear his thoughts?! He probably shouldn't think of anything embarrassing then... Alfie rolled his eyes when the Hat likened him to his mother. It was true, he certainly did not like his mother and even less so being likened to her. "Now, which house do you want to be in?" Does that matter? "Yes, it does. Your house defines the person you become, and it would certainly help if you like the house I sort you into."
Alfred supposed he didn't have a preference, since he would be fine in being in any house, really. "Cunning like a Slytherin, smart like a Ravenclaw. Kind like a Hufflepuff and brave like a Gryffindor. But above all, utterly devious. Yes, it better be..."
He awaited the result eagerly. "SLYTHERIN!"
Huh. Interesting. Alfie removed the hat from his head and walked over to the table adorned with green banners. He wouldn't have liked to admit it, but he half-skipped over to the table in happiness, because all that anticipation had been lifted from his shoulders. |
