Mamie had thought about going to find Ashley, really had, she wanted to see her friend one last time before summer. But...she had spent two months locked in a room with no time to herself. Zero alone. Zip. Zilch. Nada.
Even for an extrovert like her, it was a lot.
That, plus the sudden realization as she boarded the train that, that she was going home. Were her parents going to be mad she hadn't written all year? Were they going to make her explain it? Were they even going to let her come back? It was a lot to process.
She made her way into an empty (for now) compartment, heaved her rucksack with her street clothes onto the rack overhead. And plopped herself into one of the window seats. With a heavy sigh, she pulled her feet up onto the seat (they barely still fit) and leaned against the window. She tried to focus on the outside. She didn't actually want to fall asleep yet. |
