SPOILER!!: Aboli

Aboli found nothing enjoyable for the past couple of weeks. Nothing. There was nothing left in her. No fight, no desire to do magic. It was suffering majorly. She did her essays with about as much gumption as an old broomstick on it's last twig making its final flight. Lessons were terrible, but she was able to see Noah. And all her other friends who were trapped Merlin knew where...down in the bowels of the school.

She gave Schmoe no indication of welcoming. She was tired of all of the professors. She was tired of herself. The word "muggle" made her stomach roll uncomfortably lately, and so Muggle Studies was a class she in particular dreaded.

”Hello, Ms. Song,” Finneas greeted the Seventh year as she made her way over. He wished there were something he could do to make his lessons more enjoyable. To make anything more enjoyable.

SPOILER!!: Emmerson

"Hello, Professor." Emmerson said, coming to a stop somewhere near the man. The lake was a nice change. When most of your none school hours consisted of four bare walls, the little opportunities at changes in series really made a difference.

"You're looking...alive, today."

Alive was good. Alive was all she ever asked for these days. You never knew when someone would wake up dead with these goons.

Emmerson’s choice of greeting took Finneas by surprise and he only managed to stutter in reply. ”I’m er- well- er-” How were you supposed to reply to that? Err… ”Yes, you too?”

SPOILER!!: Phoebe

"Good day, Professor," Phoebe brushed hair out of her eyes, not really caring that it was less than it's normal bounteous glory. Not caring that she hadn't been able to smile at the professor, but she'd been polite. Polite had to count for something.

”Good day, Ms. James.” He managed a smile that did not quite reach his eyes. Though smiles were scarce these days overall, James’ lack of one broke his heart the most. It was difficult to see them stop trying, the ones who usually tried the hardest.

SPOILER!!: Ivy

Finding a spot to stand next to Aboli, she glanced around at the lesson setup, absent-mindedly fiddling with the plait she'd pulled her hair into that morning.

”Hullo, Ms. Grimm. Welcome to class.” Finneas tried hard to add some energy into his words, but unfortunately fell short. It was difficult to muster much of anything when he knew what the lesson would be consisting of.

SPOILER!!: Mamie

Mamie took two steps away from the Slytherin, and gave her a polite nod of to say hi, how are you, save me. As one does.

At least they were having class outside today, which was a very nice change from the gross dungeon room Rosier was keeping the "bad kids" in. She sighed happily but tried not to smile about it. She didn't want Schmoe to get in trouble for treating the Muggleborns to some extra fresh air. Mamie was already looking pale, and she even lived in the basement normally. "Good afternoon, professor," she said. She eyed the traffic cones. What was Schmoe up to?

Each time he saw the muggleborns, he felt he could finally breathe again. What they did to them in that room, it was a mystery to Finneas. Something that kept him up at night. So each time he saw a muggleborn student enter his classroom, they received a genuine smile (albeit a small one). ”Ms. Turov.” He bowed his head simply.

SPOILER!!: Quinn

"Hello, Professor," he spat out. He wasn't mad at the Professor, today was just one of his Mad Days. Ever since The Room™, Quinn had been able to split up his days into four sections—Mad Days, Sad Days, Tired Days and Numb Days. Mad Days were his most rare out of the four, but when they happened he was directionlessly frustrated, and any little thing could set him off.

Another muggleborn. The relief Finneas felt was almost immediate, though it was fleeting. ”Hullo, Mr. Kingsley,” Finneas nodded his head at the young man. He did not look well, but he was in one piece. Today that was enough.

SPOILER!!: Noah

I forgot what the outside smells like,” he muttered a little loudly to himself before walking over to the Professor and presenting himself with limited emotion. He didn’t have any excitement left to give... He missed his dorm room. He missed his girlfriend. He missed his family. He missed his Hogwarts not this horrible nightmare. “Hello. Afternoon Professor.” he said, glancing at Schmoe for a minute before returning his gaze to Aboli and then back to Schmoe.

Then he headed to wear he could stand without getting anyone in trouble but his eyes were on Aboli the whole time, hoping that she would look over his way. He’d have to find a way to talk to her.... discreetly.

Finneas was, again, relieved to see yet another one of the students who had been taken away, arrive in one piece. It was a constant worry and though he did not want to entertain…. That line of thought, he could not help it. ”Good afternoon, Mr. Nam.” He forgot what the outside smells like?

Finneas was schmoe not okay.

SPOILER!!: Bernadette

She joined the others and briefly looked up at Schmoe, giving him a sad and tiny nod, and then back down at the ground.

Bernadette just didn't want to be here anymore. She didn't. She just wanted to go home... like, home, as in the Hogwarts of the 2100-2101 school year. Even though she'd been on dorm arrest and confined to Gryffindor Tower for a good few months, at least back then she'd had her crochet hooks and some yarn and books and a comfy bed and it hadn't been THAT serious of a dorm arrest.

The Room sucked.

It was true that Finneas worried for the muggleborns most of all, but there was one in particular that he worried for even more than the others. Bernadette had a knack for landing herself in the direct line of fire and Finneas often found himself worried about her safety.

So when he saw her make way towards the coned off circle, he felt a sense of relief. In the brief moment that she had looked up, he tried to give her a reassuring look and a small nod of his own. Did she see it?

SPOILER!!: Kale

The room had given him something to focus his energy on. And if anyone knew Kale, energy was something he had in spades.

He didn't look good. No no. In fact, he looked very bad. But there wasn't room for being scared about the mounting inevitability of his own doom. He only had a few hours a day to really think with the anonymity of lessons. He wasn't going to waste it.

Kale nodded at Schmoe and dutifully took his seat. If he had his hand on his wand it was only because he had missed it so dearly.

These children were going to shred his heart into smithereens. He was just glad to see Kale doing more than floating by lately, but this alternative did not look to be much better. There was still something off. A lack of hair product maybe? Something that felt like a punch to the gut. Finneas nodded back at him, wishing there was something more he could do.

SPOILER!!: Gracelyn

While there had been the chance of a smile before, now it was even more rare if nonexistent. The Hufflepuff was a shell of her normal self, just over dealing with it all, and she had pretty much dragged herself out to the lake for the next Muggle Studies lesson.

The subject just seemed off given everything they had continued to be told, but she wasn’t about to risk whatever punishment might happen if she refused to leave the dorm either. “Hi Professor Schmoe,” she mumbled as she stepped inside the cones, just standing wherever she managed to end up. Did any of it really matter anymore?

Did any of it really matter anymore? Yes, well, that was the question of the year, wasn’t it? Finneas wasn’t terribly sure what his own answer was, but he did nod at young Gracelyn upon her arrival. ”Hullo.”

SPOILER!!: Octavia

Still, Octavia wasn't quite right ever since hearing about the courtyard.

Her hands in her pocket, she made her way to the lake alone. Did she see her friends? Yes. But the professor got her attention first out of formalities. "Good afternoon, professor." She offered him a kind smile that didn't reach her eyes.

Stopping at her friends she silently let her eyes glance over them. She didn't say anything to them or offer them any false comfort. Once Tavie seemed satisfied she surveyed her surroundings, appearing to assess what this lesson was going to be about.

Finneas wasn’t sure what was harder to see. The students who couldn’t bring themselves to smile? Or the ones who wore one they could not truly mean? Both were difficult to see and both made his heart hurt. ”Hello, Ms. Stark. It’s good to see you.” And it was.

SPOILER!!: Nemesis

They still had their hands in their pockets though, wand ready and held; wanting to feel the chill was one thing, but it would be stupid to risk losing dexterity and fumbling if they had to cast magic at a moment's notice.

Far too much stupidity going around at the moment already.

Joining the group of students, Nem lingered - as they ever did - on the margins. Nobody got a look or greeting or acknowledgement, nobody but their esteemed professor. The Nem stare Nem gave him was a hard, stony one, and they kept it fixed on his eyes, knowing he wouldn't be able to meet it for long.

"Schmoe."

So courteous. Though they could always think of something else to call him, if he preferred.

Finneas felt ultimate discomfort under their stare. He did not know what to do with this one, never did. Finneas wasn’t even sure what it was about Nemesis that made him feel this way. It was simply just. Simply just the way it was.

And though he did not like the way Nemesis chose to address him, Schmoe was not sure how to correct them. And so instead of doing anything about it, he simply bobbed his head. ”Er, Hello.”

SPOILER!!: Valencia

Quite unlike everyone else who looked exactly the opposite.

"Hello Professor." she said offering a kind smile. Frowns were just showing the other side they were winning. She wouldn't give them the satisfaction.

She then went and stood by a tree. Because there were some around.

He was genuinely relieved to see that Valencia was handling herself well. In fact, she was one of the ones he worried about the least. He hoped that others would see her example. ”Ms. Phillips, hello.” He bobbed his head, watching as she found a place to stand.

SPOILER!!: Lilith

When she arrived at the lake, the Slytherin did not offer the professor a smile. Instead her ice blue eyes offered all of the resentment that was building up in her. Resentment against the Hogwarts professors for being cowards. For not doing something to help them out. She folded her arms over her chest and kept her cold gaze on him.

Do something, noodle man.

If only he could.

Finneas’ guilt increased tenfold under Lilith’s stare. Every day under this regime, he was letting these children down. What kind of professor did this make him? He nodded his head in her direction, hoping that maybe one day she would be able to forgive him.

SPOILER!!: Moose

How anyone expected him to function during class or during the permitted hours they were given for their supervised time out of The Room was beyond him.

But he would comply, he had no choice but to.

He didn't even give his favorite Professor a look, let alone a greeting. The Gryffindor in front of him said it all.

So he settled into the class along with everyone else. Happy to be hear, thanks for letting him come. So grateful they're letting him not be dead yet.

Finneas twitched uncomfortably. The pain hadn’t ever left his body, but now it was only compounded by the pain he felt in his heart each and every time he saw his students. Again, Schmoe found himself wishing there was something more he could do for them. It wasn’t a great feeling, being powerless.

He withered as Moose made his way towards the coned area, wishing there was more he could do to assure the young man that everything would be alright. Though the field trip had been a disaster, people on the outside knew. That must count for something.

SPOILER!!: Aries

It was the new normal - under the regime of Headmaster RUTHLESS.

A sad ball of blonde, the eleven year old made his way to class and barely smiled at the muggle studies professor before making his way to stand by one Nemesis Upstead. He looked cool, y'know. But - - "you forgot to say 'Professor" he corrected the older student.

"That is considered rude" Or so what his mom would say.

Finneas wished there was more he could do for the younger ones, especially. What had they done to deserve this? They were only children.

He did, however, find himself feeling very grateful for the young Gryffindor. He’d be keeping an eye on him and Nemesis, should the Slytherin react negatively to the young Gryffindor’s commentary.

SPOILER!!: Cal

Cal quietly walked along with the other kids from the room, choosing to walk next to Bernie this afternoon. He managed the smallest of smiles when he noticed she was kicking pebbles and joined her, choosing one particular pebble to kick along. Almost like playing football with Cel. Except not quite.
At least they got to be outside and enjoy the fresh air a little longer than they were usually allowed.

"Good afternoon, Professor.." Cal said, offering an unconvincing smile.

Finneas returned the smile with an unconvincing one of his own. His heart sunk further and further by the minute. ”Hullo, Mr. Myles,” he offered in return.

SPOILER!!: Atlas

Atlas was tempted to take his bag and whack his brother upside the head for, well, for what he wasn't too sure. But something was eating away at his stomach when it came to Nemesis Upstead these days...ever since the night in courtyard. It was no secret that the older Slytherin had Rosier's favor...and someone in Rosier's favor was NOT the sort that you wanted to talk back to or get on the wrong side of. His brother could do with a hefty reminder about self preservation and what the term red shirting meant, okay?

"Hello, professor," Atlas spoke concisely (on your side ultimately here, Aries).

But Atlas' thoughts were distracted when he saw Quinn and then he was branching off away from his brother to be with his friend. It was...hard...kind of excruciating to be separated like this from people he cared a great deal about. He had, at first, romanticized things a little bit...but the moment he had turned himself and one Phoebe James into Romeo and Juliette...it had killed all desire for the unrequited love. Romeo and Juliette were idiots and Atlas was doing his best NOT to be one of those.

An idiot.

Tiny smile in place, Atlas stood beside Quinn and mouthed a hello to him after nudging with a tiny Gryffindor fist to Ravenclaw wrist.

Finneas offered the next Flamsteed a smile that did not quite reach his eyes. ”Hullo, Mr. Flamsteed,” he watched quietly as the boy went to reunite with his friend. Finneas would let them be. Even if the Neo-Alliance wouldn’t like it. As long as they were quiet and did not draw any attention to themselves, Finneas did not see the harm in it.

SPOILER!!: Minjae

At least they were given meals and taken outside twice a day while under supervision but it wasn’t the same as walking around freely.

Upon arriving at the Lake , Minjae didn’t bother to look around at the set up. What was the point anyway? He looked up briefly to greet the Professor and as he did so his eyes conveyed a message. Though it did not say 'help us' it said ' Bloody do something you coward'

Finneas twitched, feeling an uncomfortable pain shoot up his spine. He hated that he could not do anything. If he tried, they would dispose of him and that would only make things so much worse for his students. If he didn’t try, nothing would get better. It was a catch-22.

”Mr. Yoon,” with a single look, he tried to convey that he was looking for a way out, but whether or not that was evident was unknown to him.

Which meant that nobody was getting honorifics after all of this. In Ash's eyes, authority was the ultimate evil. She didn't care what this lesson was about. Did anyone care? Did it even matter? She stared straight ahead her eyes unfocused, her thoughts unfocused, her mind on one thing. You can't make me care.

Finneas shivered, looking around for any sign of the Inquisitorial Squad. ”Ms. Fox, please.” Though he wasn’t exactly pleading, there was some note of it in his voice. If she continued to address him this way, she might face dire consequences. He tried to give her a look to convey this, but it only revealed his nerves.

SPOILER!!: Claudine

The Snakette barely looked at the materials there that would no doubt play a part in the topic of the lesson. She simply followed Minjae after casting a glance at Schmoe. Little did she know that she was thinking along the same lines as Minjae: would the Professors not do something to get these lunatics out of their lives??

”Hello, Ms. Blaze.” Finneas’ spirit deflated more and more each time he saw the kids from The Room. What were they doing down there? Surely Professor Williamson was keeping an eye on them. Protecting them.

A lesson out by the lake meant nothing anymore. Sorry, Professor but all this was, was another lesson that was only somehow going to break her a little bit more. It didn't much matter where she stood and Lia was perfectly content with standing wherever her feet stopped walking.

"Hello, Professor Schmoe," she greeted quietly. That was it. A small couldn't be managed right now, perhaps some other time when she was given a reason to smile.

”Hello, Dahlia,” he managed in a low whisper. Even his most cheerful students were breaking before his eyes. It was a terrible sight. And even more terrible feeling. What could be done?

SPOILER!!: Heath
Quote:

All it got him was a one way ticket to a crowded room in the darkest depths of the castle, not because of anything he did wrong but because his father was a bloody muggle! Now he wanted people to see the toll this took on him. He wanted everyone, especially the professors, to see the damage their inaction had done!

He looked at the professor with defeated, lifeless eyes, eyes that had lost all their former light. "Hello, Professor," he greeted, his tone flat and emotionless. Had he not suspected he was being watched, he wouldn't have offered a verbal greeting at all. He didn't feel much like talking anymore. Without another word, he went to stand with Claudine and Minjae, two other people Rosier had blacklisted, and wait for the lesson to begin.

The light had left Finneas’ eyes a long time ago too. He offered the young man a slight nod in greeting. ”Hullo.” It was only getting more and more difficult to continue with classes knowing what the curriculum required.

Finneas both looked and felt ultimately defeated. He tried to keep his spirits up for the sake of his students, but the lingering pain in his body was ultimately a reminder that he was powerless against the new leadership. With each passing lesson, it became more and more difficult to teach, but he knew that if he did not follow the curriculum, the students would be suffering far worse. And so with a great deal of hesitation, Finneas cleared his throat and addressed the class. ”Hullo, everyone,” his voice was weak and everything about his demeanor was apologetic. He wished there was something he could do, he really did. It was breaking him in a way that even the cruciatus curses had not managed. There was more pain in failing his students than there was in being tortured.

He looked around carefully, checking for signs of the Inquisitorial Squad despite knowing that there were eyes on them even if they weren’t to be seen. That much had been made evident in previous lessons. The Inquisitorial Squad was watching them more closely in Muggle Studies classes, it had been this way from the beginning. He took a deep breath, the kind that hurt his lungs, before continuing. ”Today, er, today,” he began very slowly. ”We will begin, by errrrr, by discussing some weaknesses that are specific to muggle-kind. What are some weaknesses that you can think of specific to… them? What might make them an easy target?”

Hello, yes. He hated it here. In case anyone was asking.

OOC: Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! Thanks for joining in, y’all! Class has officially started and any late arrivals at this point would have IC consequences, so just post as if you've been here all along! yadda ya, you know the drill.

I’ll be posting to move us along in another 22-26 hours give or take!
