Delaney found herself shimmying in her seat hummed to herself and the puffskein as she started handing out one treat after another until she only had one left, "Alright Penelope, last treat okay? And then I'm going to pet out ALLL over, got it?" The first year handed over the last treat before reaching in and gently petting the puffskein. Her other hand joined soon after and she was attempting to bet Penelope all over just as she promised. Treats and pets.
The brunette figured she must have enough of the animal's essence by now and dropped a few strands of fur into her remaining potion. As the bubbling died down , Delaney tipped her head back and downed it in two big gulps. "Okay Penelope...speak to me. I'm all ears!" More treats!!! And pets!!! Hooray!!! Penelope scooped up the treat (yum....bogey-flavored!) before continuing her bouncing. This was funnnnn!!! She watched eagerly as the girl drank the potion, rolling up her arm, around her neck, and perching herself on top of the girl's head. "HI! I'm Penelope! Some people call me Penny, but I like Penelope better, because I think it sounds more sophisticated, dontcha think? Hmm?" She bounced off Delaney's head and rolled in a circle around the workstation. "It's fun to be in the castle. I haven't been outside of the creature barn in AGESSSS! Are you stuck in the castle too? Are ya?" Quote:

He smiled as Basil came a bit closer. "Yeah, see? Nothing bad. Just tasty treats. Is it alright if I..?" He didn't finish the question, but cautiously held out his hand and pet the little one lightly, hopefully comfortingly. Basil shrunk into himself a bit at the touch, but he soon found that it wasn't so bad. He repuffed a bit, rolling a tiny bit closer. Text Cut: Heath Quote:

Why did cats do that? Rey never did the toy in the water dish thing, but his mum’s old cat did sometimes. Cats were weird! He listened to the professor, curious about where this was going. Yes, he remembered that mystery potion, but what did that have to do with their pets joining them? Unless… His heart sank as his earlier suspicions about that potion returned. Was he right about the Neo-Alliance forcing them to poison their own pets?
Oh? The animal whisperer potion, that’s what that potion was. Heath was relieved to know that. Better him taking the potion than Rey! His dark eyes darted from the little gray cat to the items on the front workstation. Probably best to get those before he took Rey out of the cage. If he carried her with him, she might bolt if she got scared or if she saw an animal she wanted to play with. Nope, that wasn’t happening! He was not giving the hoods a reason to kill her! Getting up, he moved to the workstation to pick up a vial of potion, a cat toy, and a few treats - but not too many. He always had Rey’s favorite toy and treats in his bag for the rare occasion that he got to see her, so he’d save the other toys and treats for people who didn’t have any for their pets.
He returned to his seat, setting the toys and treats on the table in front of him. His eyes locked with Rey’s big blue ones as he peered into the cage, and she gave him a slow blink. “Come here, Rey,” he said, opening the cage door. He scooped up the gray cat, holding her close to him so she couldn’t escape, and his heart broke as he felt her little body trembling against him. He didn’t need a potion to know she felt scared and trapped; he felt the same way. “It’s okay, you’re safe now,” he whispered, gently petting her head. “I know. It’s no fun being stuck in that cage…” Henlo, hooman dad! I iz Jedi cat using mind tricks on you. You will remove me from this cage and leave the door open. YAAAS, FREEDOM!!! Good hooman! I don’t like it in there. It’s dark and small and loud. Too many animals, and too many bad hoomans! Can I haz cuddles now? Yaaas, give the Jedi cat all the cuddles!
Heath kept petting Rey until she stopped trembling. Only when she seemed calm did he reach for a feather wand and dangle it in front of her. She blinked but made no effort to bat at it like she usually did. Now he was getting really worried! At least he got her to eat some treats. He almost did the Unkar Plutt voice that he always did when he offered Rey a “quarter portion” but stopped himself just in time. He didn’t want to know what might happen to them if he got caught making a muggle reference! Nope, no birb. Sick of birbs! I see birbs all the time, and I don’t even get to play with them. Treats are good, though. Om nom nom! Yay, quarter portion for the Jedi cat! But why u no do the voice?
Keeping one protective arm around Rey, just in case she tried to escape, he quickly wet his other hand and resumed petting her with it until several hairs in varying shades of gray stuck to his palm. He added the hairs to the potion vial, watching impatiently for the bubbles to stop. There was no time to waste! He needed to know what Rey was thinking now. In the short time it took the potion to stop bubbling, Rey snuggled into his chest and began kneading his sweater. He smiled a little. At least now she seemed a bit more like her old self! He downed the potion in one gulp. Well, that tasted… weird, but did it do anything? He didn’t feel any different. “Rey?” Oh, no! Hooman dad is sad! I can help. Knead, knead, knead. Purrrrrr… Dad’s sweater is so soft and fluffeh, just like Rey the Jedi cat!
He could hear her! Heath wasn’t sure how to feel about that. Part of him was amused by the little gray cat’s thoughts. Part of him wondered why she thought that, but mostly he was touched that she wanted to make him feel better. He chuckled softly. “I’m glad you like my sweater, but why do you think I’m sad?” Purr… Knead, knead - Oh! Dad can hear me now? You always hold me differently when you’re sad.
Heath blinked, taken aback. “I do? How?” Then another thought occurred to him. “I don’t hurt you when I hold you that way, do I?” No, no. It’s a little tighter than usual, but it doesn’t hurt. Why is Dad sad? Don’t be sad! I give you kisses. Lick, lick, lick…
All Heath could do was watch, at a loss for words as Rey wrapped her front paws around his wrist and began licking his hand. He wished he could tell her how he felt, but there were eyes and ears everywhere. If the wrong person overheard him pouring his heart out to her, it would put both of them in danger! “I’ll be okay. I’m just worried about you.” Blink, blink. Oh? Don’t worry, Dad! I’ll be okay too.
Heath wanted to continue his conversation with Rey, but the professor was moving on to something else. He gently lifted Rey to put her back in her cage, but as soon as he did, she dug her claws into his sweater. The potion hadn’t quite worn off yet, and he could still hear Rey’s thoughts begging him not to put her back in there. I’m sorry! I’m so sorry, my baby Jedi cat, he thought sadly. And not just sorry for putting her in the cage. He was sorry he brought her here. If he had any idea what would happen this term, he would’ve left her at home.
Maybe bonding with another creature would help him feel better… he hoped! He left his seat to peruse the creatures at the back of the room, and he was immediately drawn to the puffskeins. Kneazles were similar enough to cats that Rey might get jealous if she saw him bond with one of them, and the puffskeins reminded him of Holdo, the little purple pygmy puff he had to leave at home. One in particular caught his eye, the one with the pink streaks. Those streaks reminded him of another pygmy puff he used to have! “Hello, pretty puffie,” he greeted quietly. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Heath. Want to be friends?”
He kept talking to the puffskein as he wet his hands, hoping to give her time to get accustomed to his presence before he opened the cage door. “I’m going to take you out of your cage, okay?” he said. “Don’t worry, you’ll be safe with me.” Only then did he venture to pick her up and gently stroke her fur. “I like your hair,” he said as he continued petting her. “It reminds me of someone I used to know.” When he looked at his fingers, there were pink hairs stuck to them. He added them to one of the vials and drank it up. As he waited for it to take effect, he resumed petting the pretty pink-streaked puffskein. Did that do anything? Oooooh, another human! And this one was so handsome! Lilly hummed happily as she got some more attention. It certainly was nice to get so much love after being stuck in the barns all this time. She watched curiously as the boy drank the potion. He'd hear a giggly, breathy, high-pitched voice in response. "Thanks. I like my pink fur, too. Did you use to know a pink puffskein? Maybe it was my mama." She rolled around the boy's feet. She liked this one. So gentle and nice! "You would look handsome with pink streaks in your hair, too." Lilly giggled. "Or maybe blue! What's your favorite color?" |
