You know, that reasoning sounded an awful lot like a Milk Carton problem, not a Nemesis Upstead problem. Not a totally unexpected answer though; these teachers got so in their feelings about attendance. "Good point, Professor. Wouldn't hurt to stick around and take some notes, either." The spell-practicing part was all a bit pointless, not exactly stuff they couldn't do on their own, somewhere else, but Nem would go through the motions if it made him feel better.
They did switch benches though, in favour of taking up the space beside Grantham. Drawing their wand, Nem twirled it twice around their fingers, and then practiced the very difficult 'point' wand movement. "I have some water in my bag, if you want some," they said to Grantham, resuming the twirling of their elder wand while their eyes roved about the classroom. Taking notes. "Do you still feel a bit ferrety? Migalifors." Maybe the transfiguration hadn't been totally undone. Nobody was perfect.
Allegedly. Quote:

She nodded to the professor, already closing her eyes to keep the nausea at bay. If she could get over this, she wouldn't mind staying, but she'd also feel bad if she had to turn anyone else into a ferret, and she wasn't feeling so confident she could cast the spell right anyway, as her heart was no longer in it. Ferrets were.... ferrets were not the best to be, you know?
And to think, she'd once entertained ideas of becoming an animagus, hoping to be something that could fly, or maybe become a be---
Oh, Nem was here; Bernie recognized the voice. "Yes, please," she said in a smöl voice, her sad eyes popping open for a moment to blink at Nem before they went back to being closed. She didn't answer the second question. Maybe she needed a trash bin as well... Quote:

They reached a hand into their school bag and pulled out a bottle of water. Charmed to refill, and to remain at a cool temperature. Almost invaluable, as it happened. "Here." Nem handed it to Grantham, touching it to her hand as she had her eyes closed, and studied her face for a moment. Merlin, if she hurled... Nem didn't even want to tell her to do it in another direction, in case just the mention of it set her off. It could happen. They'd triggered it in Ez plenty of times before, just for fun.
But it wouldn't be fun now. "Impervius," Nem muttered, pointing their wand at both of their robes, just in case. Then, after maybe a second's consideration, they placed a hand on Grantham's back.
There, there. Quote:

Didn't matter because she was feeling buoyant now (despite there being no waves around). And ah, perhaps feeling buoyant wasn't the best feeling to have here. The lightness. Lightheadedness. She was determined not to hurl.... or to hurl, maybe she should hurl? That was the question. Would hurling make her stomach hurt less?
She felt the hand on her back and popped open her eyes, a little bit surprised. That was all. It was the surprise that did it, though, Bernie felt the upchuck coming up up and dropped the water bottle on the ground, both of her hands going to her mouth to try to stave off the vomit. It didn't work, of course, as most of it splattered out of lips and on the ground and oh Merlin, the color of it made it so much worse, it was somehow both yellow and green, with definite floating chunks of scrambled egg from breakfast, and---
In conclusion, the sight of the vomit made more vomit come up... everywhere. Even Bernie's little hands on her big mouth could do nothing to hold it back.
Norman was prepared for an argument to follow. He knew teenagers could be mouthy sometimes, particularly when they were told something they didn’t want to hear, but he was both relieved and slightly surprised when that didn’t happen, He nodded at Upstead’s mention of taking notes. “Good thinking, Upstead,” he said.
He stayed close by, mostly watching Grantham for signs of illness, though he couldn’t help observe the pair’s interactions. Interesting dynamic… but now wasn’t the time to think about it. He was about to ask Grantham if she was feeling any better when the vomit happened. That answered that question! Showing no sign of reaction to the mess, Norman drew his wand and cast a nonverbal vanishing spell on the vomit. Another spell summoned a trash can from the back of the room. “Here, use this if you need it,” he said, setting the trash can in front of Grantham. He inwardly groaned. Obviously she wouldn’t recover from this on her own, as he’d hoped. “Do you think you can walk to the hospital wing?”
Norman was so busy with this pair that he lost track of time, and when he looked at his watch, it had been longer than ten minutes. They had to move on now! His blue-green eyes scanned the room. So far, the students had exceeded his expectations. Several of them had managed to cast the spell successfully, and there had been very few cases of incomplete transfiguration. He clapped his hands to get their attention. “Time is up! If your partner is still a ferret, untransfigure them now or raise your hand if you want me to do it for you.” Only when he was sure all the students had been untransfigured did he go on. “Excellent job, everyone!” he said with a small smile. “You’ve made a lot of progress with a difficult spell in a short amount of time. Now let’s build on that…” He paused for a moment. “Should you need to use this spell in a real-world setting, it’s unlikely that your target will just stand still and allow you to transfigure them, so our next activity will help you hit a moving target.”
Norman summoned a box from underneath one of the benches, a box containing orange and purple armbands. “For this game, you’ll divide into two teams. If you were sitting on the left side of the room today, you’re Team Orange. Right side, you’re Team Purple. Come and get an armband in your team color from this box, put it on, and go stand on one side of the center line on the floor. Team Orange on the left side of the line, Team Purple on the right.”
He gave the students a couple of minutes to follow the instructions before continuing, “The object of the game is to turn as many of the other team into ferrets as possible. You can transfigure an opponent or untransfigure a member of your own team; each successful transfiguration or untransfiguration is worth 25 points. But be careful where you aim! If you accidentally transfigure a teammate or untransfigure an opponent, your team loses 10 points. The point values are on the board, in case you forget.” With a wave of his wand, the following appeared on the board: Quote:
Transfigure an opponent: 25 points
Untransfigure a teammate: 25 points
Transfigure a teammate: -10 points
Untransfigure an opponent: -10 points
Norman walked along the lines marking the perimeter of the room, casting a nonverbal magical barrier as he went. “You may move freely, as long as you stay within the perimeter lines. The benches and everything else outside the lines are a neutral zone. You can go there if you need a break, but there is to be no spell casting in the neutral zone! Just in case, I’ve cast a magical barrier along the perimeter to keep any wayward spells from penetrating the neutral zone.” Just because he hadn’t seen the Inquisitorial Squad yet didn’t mean they wouldn’t show up, and he didn’t trust the hooded horrors not to wander into the path of a spell (whether accidentally or intentionally) and use it as an excuse to torture the students. Nope, not happening on his watch! “The team with the most points at the end of class will get 500 words off the homework essay. The game starts… NOW!” OOC: We’ve reached the main activity! For this game, you may choose the team for your charrie, but please try to keep the numbers balanced. Your charrie can do ONE of the following actions per post: Cast Migalifors at another charrie, Cast Reparifarge at another charrie, Dodge another charrie’s spell, or Take another charrie’s spell. Please title each post with your team name, the action taken, AND the charrie on the giving/receiving end of the spell (e.g: Team Orange- Casting Migalifors at Jane; Team Purple - Dodging John’s spell). Please not that you are not allowed to rp the outcome of your spell on another character, and a spell does not have to be directed at your charrie specifically for them to dodge/take it (e.g. Bob can take a spell that was meant for Jane). You have ABOUT 60 HOURS for this activity. As always, feel free to PM me with any questions.
P.S. If your charrie was still transfigured when we moved on, you can wait for your partner to attempt untransfiguration or say Norman untransfigured them, your call.
