In a matter of seconds, Cornelia was ready to accept that this was how she was going to die. Death by stairs. It really was disappointing, wasn't it? As she continued sink, all eleven years of her life flashed before her. She was so young and had so much life left in her. There were still many questions she thought she had time to get answered. What did Polyjuice taste like? Did the phoenix come first or the flame? What was it like kissing a boy? What was for pudding that evening for supper? All important things she would never know.
But then voices brought her back to reality. Though she was still slowly sinking, she wasn't as far in as she had thought. Not to mention that there were not one, but two, older students there to rescue her was reassuring, and they didn't seem at all concerned. It helped calm her down, but only a little.
Two hands were held out to her. Cornelia looked at them both. She instantly latched onto Claudine's since she knew her. The other hand that belonged to the Hufflepuff, however, was not one she grabbed right away. The first year was a bit apprehensive. He was a Hufflepuff, she didn't know him, and the way Claudine said 'rich boy' gave off a certain vibe.
She did eventually grab onto it, though. Claudine did say to grab on to hers as well as the older boy's, so she was going to trust her housemate here. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" she told them both.
