"So she suggested it?" Jessica was turning THAT information around in her head. That must mean that yes, she was reaching out first and wanted to meet Jessica. "You'd really....not speak with her if she didn't like me? Or rather, if she let her dislike of me affect her treatment of me?" she asked gently. She didn't know how she would feel about that. Her own family was so important, so close, that she wouldn't want to ask anyone else to cut off ties with ANY of their family for her. Not that she thought David's mother would be openly rude...just probably...difficult. "I guess tell her I am game. Only make me sound smart. I mean - I am smart - " she blushed and buried her face in her hands. "Tell her that I, Jessica, your girlfriend, would very much like to have tea with her on a day that is convenient to her." She nodded a lot and put her fork down, her appetite very much gone. That only meant that she'd be cooking later for them. Dinner. And if David stayed over, she would cook breakfast too.
Hopefully she had all of the necessary produce required. "Got any Felix Felicis at the ready, David?" she asked with a cockeyed smile. Davie would be sure to provide her with many, many more tips (including his mother's first name, of course, which was what he would encourage Jessica to call her) prior to their meeting. This would be fine! Perhaps it would be better than fine, even. Who knew? The women in his life might just get along at last!
Ah, he really was walking on sunbeams today, or however the song went.
"Yes." David continued eating his lunch, quite happily watching his date as she mulled things over. She had a lovely little thinking face, was she aware of this? "Of course. I frequently cut off communication with her when she starts behaving like a... jackalope." To put it politely. He never stopped writing to his dad, though. Ethan knew by now how to navigate them and no one could handle his mother better, so... yes, he did still play mummy off daddy when it convenienced him to do so.
Again, these juicy tidbits were best saved for private, not public knowledge.
He let out a small laugh then at her hiding her face. "I will tell her that you, Jessica, my girlfriend, will happily attend tea at my place. I'll host it, of course. She's been dying to see my flat." There, see? He could kill two basilisks with one sword, or however that expression went.
David's face was really going to ache later from all this use of smiling muscles. "I do not, I'm afraid." A pause, as he actually considered if she were joking or being serious? He thought she was joking, but just in case.... "As it takes six months to brew, I do not have any readily available. But I do know where we could procure some... not that you'll need it, of course." He picked up a slice of his apple. "Jessica, you're brilliant and beautiful. I am the lucky one to have met you." Facts, those were.
