But she took a large swig of water from her hydro!flask-esque container and leaned her head back, sighing. "Your mother, from everything you've told me, sounds daunting to meet. I am nervous, that's all." Her chest was even doing a thing thinking about it. It wouldn't at all be like him meeting HER family. They were jovial, jolly Filipinos! They welcomed everyone into their home as family the moment they took a bite of food! No, earlier than that - the moment anyone in her family GREETED a visitor, they were like family unless told otherwise. "But...tea. All right. You're coming shopping with me to find the right outfit to impress her." She tucked some hair behind her ear anxiously. "Does...did she...is she mad? About...you...and me?" she asked, her voice getting all tiiiiiny at the end because she was so SCARED to hear the answer. And if David had continued with his studies of legilimency, he would have assured Jessica that tea time would be fine so long as she did not attempt to call his mother (big cringe here) Mrs. Truebridge. He'd never in his life heard her referred to as such.
But alas, he would only be able to assist her... with some of the things.
"Oh," he sipped at his own water, as seeing her drink reminded him to hydrate too. David paused, wondering how best to admit that up until a few years ago, his mother did most of his shopping for him, so it would be useless for him to accompany her to select the right outfit, and ultimately deciding that perhaps that was one of those fun personal facts he should just keep to himself.
He bit back a chuckle at the word mad and tilted his head as though agreeing that yes, indeed, she was mad, occasionally a stark-raving lunatic in his opinion, but not mad in the way Jessica intended. She was not angry that her only son finally a proper romantic relationship to discuss. "No, no," he replied matter-of-factly, "she is surprised, perhaps, but she did suggest the tea, so I think she would like very much to meet you. And thus she will, for all intents and purposes, be kind to you, so that she and I can continue to exist on speaking terms."
David sounded very cheerful as he reported all this. It was just difficult for him to put a damper on this day, which was really going very well for him so far, even if he did, of his own initiative, bring up the contentious subject of his mother.
