Already, Nem was seized with a desire - for lack of a better term - to go quiet through the remainder of this lesson and focus instead on observing the situation, doing some thinking, maybe throwing in a few joke answers. But the arrival of a group that (judging by the note-taking and Walter's only-very-subtle reaction to them) were here to spy, well, that was the proverbial spanner.

All in all, though, Nem wasn't surprised. From the start of all this, they'd known it would be in their best interests to act as if there were eyes and ears everywhere, because there probably were. The most surprising part was that they were allowing themselves to be seen at all, but that wouldn't stop Nem from treating every conversation like they were hovering over their shoulder.

Deciding it best to not give the Hug-a-Hoodie Snitch Brigade even a second glance, Nem focused instead on providing an actual serious or whatever contribution to this actual serious or whatever matter. They raised a hand. "Best way to survive one is not taking one on in the first place." Which, by the way, was a not-so-subtle dig at... basically everyone in this hub of idiocy, Hogwarts. But that answer might not be enough, not today at least.

By the way, not to directly undermine their own answer or anything, but was it too much to hope that Shakespeare had a real cockatrice around here somewhere? Even just a baby one? Probably. Ugh. Grow up.

"Otherwise, if you know how to conjure up an indestructible material, which is always useful, you could encase it inside a solid cage, provided you have brains enough to lure and trap it. With the cage, you can't see in, which puts you at a disadvantage when or if you plan on letting it out again, but you also can't see its eyes, be touched by it, or feel its breath, which are all ways it's said to be able to kill. I suppose if you wanted to do away with it, there are more options once its already trapped. You could stick a bunch of weasels in there." Sure, use a mirror or whatever, but that was boring. Cage of indestructible mirrors with a deadly foe thrown in? A little less boring, Nem supposed. A little less predictable.
