Bernie had absolutely no clue that you could use rocks for divination. However, at this point in her many (read: five) years as a witch, she had learned that you could basically use anything for Divination. There was no avoiding it, apparently. So for her answer, she fell into her default mode of making something up.
"You could... skip a stone across the lake and see how many rings it makes in the water," she guessed. "Or if you've got long game, you could get a stone wet and then see if it'll grow moss and then you could burn the moss and read the smoke rings."
She really had no clue. It was hard to make a good guess when they were all being watched by these people but they couldn't see WHO the creepy watchers WERE. They were just ... hoods. Bernie blinked and decided to be a watcher herself; she watched as the professor spoke to the suspicious people, her gaze darting between the adults with hesitation. Were the rocks really here for the lesson or did she want to give them an extra weapon (besides their wands)? Hufflepuffs were nice like that, Bernie thought. Maybe Kitridge was just looking out for them, really. Then she took turns watching each additional person who answered, wondering how some of the kids (the ones mentioning lithomancy) knew which chapters to read before the first of day school, even. Guess those ones were the seers.
