“I would have loved to have seen that!” He said, with a surprisingly warm laugh. “As long as nobody was hurt.” Nero added sheepishly. “Many study life and death as if they were two separate things, but a dangerous situation can show how thin the line between them can be.” The veil behind him was an enduring example of how easily one could cross the line. One little push, and that’d be it for the doctor. “But you’re not here to listen to me wax poetic. Were you looking to talk to someone? Mrs. Witherby likes to have tea and cake with me once a month. She doesn’t actually partake, but she likes to imagine.” Nero was strangely casual about his interactions with the deceased. The poor woman probably thought he was crazy. Perhaps he was.
