When Professor Schmoe said they were making televisions, Heath initially thought that meant they would be building a real, functioning television from scratch. His excitement faded somewhat when he saw the model the professor had made. He supposed he should’ve guessed it would take longer than one lesson to build a functioning television! Picking up a cardboard box, he envisioned a design for his television. These things didn’t really lend themselves to a flat screen design, so he opted for a vintage model. Ooh, that gave him an idea! If this activity was going the direction he thought it was, he could model his news anchor character to fit the same era as his cardboard television. It was perfect!
No sooner had he returned to his seat with his materials when the drama unfolding among his classmates distracted him. He couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for Ivy. He knew how it felt to be humiliated in front of an entire classroom; that happened to him practically every day in muggle school! The thought crossed his mind to invite her to work with him, but he decided against it because that might upset the girlfriend. That, and it seemed Phoebe was already offering to work with her. Hmm… looked like that situation resolved itself. Back to work!
Heath carefully cut out part of the front of the box to make the screen, leaving a panel at the right side where the knobs would go. Speaking of which, did Professor Schmoe have some wire for the antenna and bottle caps or large buttons he could use for the knobs? That would look more authentic than drawn-on knobs! Was there enough time to ask before they moved on? Probably not… he’d just use what he had. He cut off the bottom flaps of the box, using the cardboard to make the knobs and antenna. After gluing the pieces on, his television was done. He scrutinized his work carefully. It wasn’t the most accurate depiction, but not terrible for someone who wasn’t good at art.
