Jane walked behind the woman, watching the rear in case whatever it was managed to double back and sneak up behind them--or in case it wasn't alone. She noticed with curiosity how Catherina paused now and then to fix some of the broken orbs--were all these prophecies now lost? Could some of them be saved? Apparently this Unspeakable thought so, and she ought to know, after all. And how could someone--or something uninvited have gotten all the way down to Level 9, into the Department of Mysteries, of all places. Jane was still too new to know much about how things worked here, but even she was pretty sure this was not normal.
