Spearing a sausage on a stick Cole held it over the fire to roast it. Did they have ketchup?
"They do have large, human-like footprints," Williamson agreed with the first half of Cole's answer but paused at the part about pairs of fours. "Do you mean pairs of two, though? Yeti just walk on two legs, like a humanoid. So you'd want to look for footprints, really."

She hadn't finished reading about yetis yet. Woah. It was really cold here. She snuggled a little closer into her coat. At least the hot cocoa would warm her hands.
"You're correct," he smiled at the first year, whose guesses were spot on. "You have to watch AND listen for yeti. Since they are so large, they definitely leave a trail of broken branches as they stomp through a group of trees. This also means that you can hear them coming before you see them."

"Some people believe that yetis are related to trolls. So maybe they leave behind a bad odor?" Avalon said, plopping some noodles into the water once it was boiling. She remembered how awful it smelled during their last COMC class, when they experience Professor Williamson's troll memory. At that recollection, Avalon sniffed the air, but she only detected sausage and hot chocolate.
"That's true," Williamson nodded to Avalon. "They ARE related to trolls. When I worked in Alaska, my colleagues and I proved a definite migration of yeti into North America through the Bering land bridge." But anyway, back to Avalon's answer. "So there is a definite relation there and, possibly, a smell, if you can get close enough to one to notice that."

She liked noodles very much and collected some of it, enough for her and Heath, and a pan. If he wanted, that was. “Um… noodles?’’ she asked him. She bustled herself in bringing the water to a boil.

“We could always look for their fur. As white as it would be, and enough to blend in to the environment at times, a small amount together would be easier to spot.’’
"Good," Williamson nodded to Claudine. "They have white fur that helps them blend into a whiteout environment like this," he gestured around them, "but they might stand out against a green fir, for example."

She directed her attention toward the firewood and tried to focus. ”Flammae Ceruleum”, she repeated once again. Her next bluebell flame ignited and she was satisfied.

Looking over the food choices, Naya decided to go for a sausage. Turning to Cole, she asked, “What do you have a taste for?” At this point, just about anything would have worked for Naya. While preparing her sausage for cooking, the professor asked a question. She had a thought.

“I think we could look for some Yeti droppings. That would be evidence of their presence.” That is, if one knew what Yeti droppings looked like.
Yeti droppings... yes, that was a nice way to put that. "Indeed. If you can find--- or smell--- their stinky poo, you'll know yeti are nearby." And it was BIG poo, take it from him.

Later.

"I never thought it was funny. I dunno what they've got to be grumpy about all the time. We're good kids, aren't we?"

The Gryffindor grabbed two sausages--one for Fifi, her camping buddy--and some packets of cheese. "I guess the easiest way to know if a yeti's been here is if there's still one staring you in the eyes trying to figure out what kind of hairless cat you are." Yetis were bulked up fur babies. Emm bet humans looked real funny to them for that reason.

She offered Fifi the extra sausage. "Are you really gonna be an auror?"

They should do this forever and ever and never go back to dangerous old Hogwarts. "I always thought I wanted to be an Auror like my mum and grandmum, but... there are other things, right? I should try a bunch of stuff out so I don't end up doing something I don't really like." She found a stick and held her sausage out over the flame to heat it. "Come sit by me and roast your dinner like a good camper."

The Professor wanted to know how they could tell yetis has been through here? LIKE THE PROFESSOR DIDN'T ALREADY KNOW IF THIS PLACE WAS SAFE? "Poo, sir."
He'd just ignore the discussions between these two Gryffindors about his state of grumpiness. Which, for the record, WASN'T that grumpy. Williamson was definitely never as grumpy as the Headmaster, for example.

He cleared his throat at the girls. "Correct... if you see a Yeti face to face, Cambridge, you should probably try to run or at least hide, because you will NOT be able to scare one off. Or you could use the spell I taught you..." That he'd noticed her NOT practicing, "to make some fire come out of your wand...."

He eyed Phoebe too. "Poo, yes. Perhaps you'll see some on your hike later...."

But for now, it was time to eat, and then get to bed. "Alright, kids, after dinner, it's bedtime. We've got to get started bright and early tomorrow." And he'd be casting protective wards around their tents so they could sleep in peace until they were awakened by the early sun glinting off the snow in the morning.

OOC: Sorry we ran out of time! This was a busy week IRL for me! But, if you'd like to finish the Yeti RP, I'll be setting up a thread in the St. Mungo's forum to continue our adventures.

Thank you all for coming!
