Josh was not the strongest when it came to spellwork and hardly had the time to put in additional effort into practice outside of what was required to gain some proficiency so a spell was actually useful.

But honestly, where was the pride or sense of accomplishment in disarming someone four years younger than you and with liiiiiiiike less than four months of actual spell practice experiences to dip into? If he was meant to play a role like he had the Elder Wand...or that she had the Elder Wand and he wanted to retrieve it...there were serious plot holes in the narrative and he could not understand his character's motivation at all. Not that he was really trying to get into a character anyway.

"Protego," he commanded, erecting the Shield Charm with a flick of the wrist and rebounded the spell right back at her. Best offense was a good defense, right? "Expelliarmus!" he then countered with.

Hey, if that had worked for Harry Potter at the Battle of Hogwarts then it was more than enough here, right?
