It was as Lucas bent his knees to try another jump, that it happened. A jet of red light flew right above his head, only missing his hair by a few centimetres. Swearing loudly, he ducked his head slightly, placing both hands over the top of his head. Sweet Merlin, what was going ON?!
Before he could so much as comprehend what was happening, the situation only got worse. The vague sound of someone casting the Carpe Retractum spell reached his ears and, out of the corner of his eyes, he saw another jet of light. One that was rope-like and, looking up, twisting itself around his very wand.
This was NOT HAPPENING!
Amidst the panic, he could feel something bubbling up inside of him. Something that was making his heart beat faster and making the room feel much hotter than it was. The seventh year’s gaze followed the rope until it landed on the caster themselves.
But everything was happening too quickly for him to properly comprehend that this was Nemesis Upstead. The same Nemesis Upstead whose brother was best friends with Art. Instead, Lucas acted on the new feeling taking over him, causing him to do something that he probably wouldn’t do in any other situation. "HEY!"
And then he charged straight for the culprit. Aha. Success.
With the cord of light successfully wrapped around Dakest's wand, Nem pulled their own back and reeled it in, cancelling the spell and catching it deftly. Yes, definitely a success. They glanced up.
Oh. Half success. Well, that was irritating.
Shoving Dakest's wand into their own holster, Nem beat a hasty retreat, backing away a couple of steps as Dakest began - surprisingly enough - charging them down. But then they stopped and suddenly raised their wand at him again, cool as anything, aiming right at his chest as he got closer and closer. "Flipendo Duo." It should knock him back and down, and then he would stay down, if he knew what was good for him. And then they could talk this through like adults. |
