Mamie's face fell as the headmaster dismissed her answer. She was still skeptical, the wand sounded like it was encouraging people to fight over it. That just didn't seem like a good thing.

She walked over to an older student who looked like they didn't have any partner yet for the dueling. She was nervous, but if she had to duel, then she might as well choose her own partner. "Do-do you want to be my partner?" she asked. "I'm Mamie."

Fortunately, with the pairs taking turns to duel, that meant she could watch other groups first and maybe at least know the incantations for some useful spells. Whether just saying them would work, that was a different matter and one she couldn't do much about.
