She settled on ONE scoop with sprinkles, in a cup to preserve her hands, and emerged back into the sun wit her prize. Her eyes took ages to adjust to the brightness, and when she could see again, she found herself watch Emm bully an adult and child into giving up their table. That's the spirit, kiddo.
"Hi." Phoebe settled herself across from Emm and toasted the younger girl with her cup of ice cream. "You've been shopping!" She was SOOOO busy making sure that rude woman and her son kept stepping that Emm didn't realize Fifi was there until she'd taken the seat across from her. The look of defiance that had set in shifted quickly to delight at the sight of her friend then abject horror, all the in the space of a few seconds.
Cue the dramatics. "Oh, Fifi!!" Emmerson threw her hands atop the table, forlorn and in obvious distress. "The shopping was fun at the start but now I get the feeling Mummy really will send me off come September!" It was the greatest travesty yet. "We've gotten almost everything on the list now and Grandpa says he doesn't think she's joking. I don't know how much more tears I have left in me." But it was beginning to feel like a fool's errand. Tears, while effective on others, seldom worked on her mother, frustratingly enough. "What do I do?"
