That sentence and the jarveys’ chatter in general got a laugh from him. He didn’t know what was more surprising: the fact that he made no effort to disguise his laughter or that he’d laughed at all.
Heath’s laughter quickly gave way to shock as he watched Professor Windu’s hand pass through the white jarvey (Albus), and he thought he heard him mutter something about being a ghost. At those words, all the fear Heath had been holding in since the Christmas holiday threatened to rear its ugly head. What if they really were ghosts? What if he never saw his family again? What if he never got to become a famous actor? He shook his head, willing himself not to think about that as he pulled on his own dragonhide gloves. Maybe bonding with a cute cuddly jarvey would take his mind off it!
As for which jarvey he wanted to work with, it wasn’t a hard choice. “Could I have a turn with her next, please?” Heath asked, gesturing toward Mollywobbles; the question was meant for both Professor Windu and Nala. While he awaited his turn, he went to get some treats for the mother jarvey. Hopefully she’d like kibbles because he really did not want to touch a dead mouse, gloves or not! Dead animals… ugh, no! He knew death was the natural order and all that, but it broke his heart just to look at a dead creature, let alone touch one!
“Hello there… mummy jarvey,” he said, cautiously extending a hand to pet the creature. He’d forgotten her name - it was something with an M, wasn’t it? Mon Mothma? Madam Morrible? Something like that - but he remembered that she was the mother of one of the other jarveys. She was way too good at acting like a mum to not be one! “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Heath; it’s short for Heathcliff, but that’s a ridiculous name, isn’t it? At least it reads well on a theater marquee… or it will if I ever land a lead role. I’m something of an actor…”
Heath was so absorbed in trying to befriend Mollywobbles that he completely forgot there were other people around who might hear him. Animals were so much easier to talk to than humans! They wouldn’t judge you if you said the wrong thing. Finally realizing he was babbling, Heath allowed his voice to trail off as he offered the mother jarvey a treat. ”Are you still hungry, girl?”
Naya was busy soaking up the jarvey love. Mollywobbles was such a sweetie. They were really bonding and the creature seemed to enjoy being cuddled and petted. She laughed when the mama tickled her hand. Clearly she liked the treats. Naya was in the middle of giving more hugs when
Heath arrived. Could they take turns? While the Gryffindor was loving her Mollywobbles time, she was willing to share. The jarvey surely had enough love to go around.
Of course we can take turns.” She handed Mollywobbles over to Heath and watched as they had their bonding moment.
This...was...so...much...fun! They didn’t even have to take the jarveys through an obstacle course. They could just enjoy the animals. And then.......the gnomes happened. All of the jarveys seemed to perk up once they saw the gnomes. It was as if someone had yelled “Squirrel”. Naya looked at Heath.
“I guess we’re going to have to get dirty To the mud pit?” She stood up and prepared to accompany her partner and their jarvey to the pit. This was going to be interesting, messy and interesting.
“Ready for a little hunting Mollywobbles?”
