You and I out together, I mean.’’ As for them getting one of those plants in their home… “I don’t think you have to worry about it, Con. I’d prefer a bonsai or something just as pleasant.’’

Like his husband, Sachin’s attention was now focused on the middle aged man with the cane {Nero}. He was too preoccupied with the fellow and his actions to even focus properly on Conley’s question. “Hey, Mister,’’ said Sachin hurriedly, his accent more pronounced for some reason. He dropped his hand from Conley's arm. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”

It hadn’t been like they had spent their entire courtship at home, but they had never officially attended a work function together as a couple. It hadn’t occurred to Conley that Sachin might be happy that they could just be them in public now. Sometimes Conley could be so obtuse. He returned Sachin’s smile. ”It is nice, isn’t it?” Except for his nerves, the evening had been nice. No worries about possibly showing affection or being seen in each other’s company for too long. As for the plants? ”A Bonsai mmm? I’ll have to remember that.” Because right now they had very few plants at home. Conley never had the green thumb and so it never really occurred to him to keep plants.

Rolling the handle slowly in his palm as he spoke, the doctor then held the lense to his eye, looking over the corpse flower with a curious eye.

"Would one of you fine young lads or ladies mind fetching me a drink?" Now he cast his gaze upon the gathered crowd, Nero's left eye distorted by the lense.

Oh good, the man had stopped. He wasn’t sure if it was his warning or Sachin’s or the other lady who had chimed in, but at least there were no purple sparks. Who knew what would have happened had the man activated the wards around the Corpse Flower? With the luck around the Ministry, the smell would probably have increased. And the man at least was being polite about it.
He wasn’t sure if the doctor was introducing himself to the people around him or the plant and glanced over at Sachin to see if he knew. One eyebrow was raised in question as he thought, a doctor? How odd. Not usually something someone identified as in the wizarding world. At least not from Conley’s experience. ”Conley Phora,” he replied eyeing the man’s magnifying glass ”May I introduce my husband, Ambassador Singh?” Oh, Sachin was right. Conley felt a little swell of pride at the words. That did feel good to say.

He took his drink back from Sachin and finished it as the Doctor started looking over the flower. ”I can get it. Sach, did you want another one?” he asked before slipping off towards the drink table.

"You were reacting as if you had actually been hit in the face with something." Alba giggling a big more but then the smell caught her again... "So I was distracted by your reaction ... but now ...." Alba turned her back on the corpse flower again, maybe if she wasn't directly looking at it she could keep it together.

"This is not exactly a romantic aroma ..... how are we suppose to flirt when we all smell like a dead body?" Alba was certain that her clothes would trap the scent and it would linger forever, she may even have to throw out her brand new dress she bought for this occasion. "Dead body's do not attract husbands." Alba's mood was souring the longer the smell lasted.

”Ai am glad ai can amuse yo,” he said dryly as her laughter subsided. His eyes drifted from the man across the room that had caught his eye back to Alba who seemed to be having a hard time with the smell. He reached into a pocket and pulled out a clean handkerchief and handed it over. ” Hairé. Tak zis.” She’d find it was scented with something spicey and citrusy that should help with the smell. He’d prepared the handkerchief in case he couldn’t handle the smell. Yes, it was a bad as he expected and had Alba not been there he would have used it himself. Alas, Valentin believed that chivalry was not dead.

” What exact-lee did you expéct from a flowair named aftair a decomposeng body?” he asked, this time with humor evident in his snark. Marriage? Who had said anything about marriage? ” Ai do not think marriajé was what la mineestry was goeng fair wiv tonight’s events.” In fact, he hadn’t come to the event with anything close to romance in mind. And since when was marriage on Alba’s mind? This was news to him. He wondered if something had happened while he had returned home to France. Should he ask her? Or should he just get her home? ”Alba? Do you want to go?”
