To be perfectly honest, he thought it was a little strange to be having a Ministry party in a greenhouse, surrounded by a bunch of weird plants. "You and me both." Cupcakes? Oh yes, please. "Thanks. Did you take those off the table or did you make them?" He couldn't tell. Luther took one of Kiko's cupcakes anyway and munched on one nodding his head at her approving of the taste. Mhmmm. Oh? Someone joined them. And then someone else. And... okay, wow the MLE people were a lot in this party, weren't they? They were easy to spot, too, as ironic as that was considering they had to be subtle in almost everything.
"Excuse me, then," he informed the small group but mainly the girl (Kiko) who he was chatting with. If she already had her drink, he needed his. And off he went to the drinking table. Quote:

And hot when he acted all bossy and well-connected. Though it got less hot when he was being bossy to her. She forced a bigger smile on when he asked for more drinks. Was he trying to get rid of her to mingle with his work friends? Mkay, she was gonna accidentally drop some salty treats in his drink. "Yes, dear." She turned and headed for the drinking corner. He stared at little more at his former partner until Genny decided to pipe up. PARTNER. What was wrong with Geneva, emphasizing the word like that. He again began to turn a bit pink, and hastily tossed back the rest of his drink while now GLARING at Genny. He'd...he'd just not comment on Jessica's good looks, alright? Didn't it go without saying that she was very, very attractive??! They were at a professional work function, for Circe's sake. The last thing he'd need would be to accused of workplace harassment before his career even took off. AND Genny should have known that his partner for the contest would be gorgeous; it went without saying when one was in a contest involving Beauties (like her) and Brains (like him). David clearly didn't fit into the Beauties category. He barely knew how to dress himself!
Hmmph. "For the record, Erik didn't know anything," he laid his icy eyes on Chloe now. "But it would have been nice to see how the contest would have ended."
Eh, anyway. "Anyone want a refill?" Yes, David was going to excuse himself now, thanks, since he was feeling a bit salty about all this PARTNER talk. He'd get a cocktail napkin or five for Genny to autograph, but first, he'd need a few more glasses of sparkly...juice. Maybe he could knock one back at the refreshments table before returning to this group. Quote:

In the world of publicists and dealing with famous people, Jessica found it difficult to make lasting relationships among those kinds of people sometimes. She had even DATED a famous Quidditch player once, and...well.
Yeah. He was clearly no longer in the picture for a reason.
She watched David sputter a bit, look nervous, then dredge off to get drinks. Poor Mr. Truebridge. Jessica felt for him. He must be quite the nervous Nancy, she decided, and she smirked to herself as she watched him go. Jessica would simply have to help him, clearly. Side project, perhaps? "I'm good, David, Bryant's getting me something I hope." If he didn't get lost on the way. And by getting lost, she mostly meant him socializing. The man was a social butterfly. Jessica COULD be, but she was not mingling widely tonight. She would make her rounds eventually...but nothing too major.
She SHOULD probably go see her department head at some point, though. "Chloe, honey, I have to agree with ole' Davie there. You would have lost." She grinned playfully before turning back to Genny. "What made you sign him up? He seems like an anxious guy. Did you think it would make him come out his shell?" And how had that worked thus far, eh? Heh. Quote:

She hadn't been expecting it to be so easy but figured it never hurt to ask. "Into quidditch is an understatement really. My whole family is though. She played for the Bats for a few years back before I was born." So uh three decades ago?? "And then was the team healer for the Portree team for like twenty years after she had kids." Basically Amelia Rose lived and breathed quidditch. "And I got an uncle who played for the Kestrals." Genny watched Davie glare at her and overthink the singular word she uttered with a big grin. She kept looking at him from over her glass as she drank, looking very much like a trolling older sister. Although he'd hate that analogy. "Yes, please!" She chirped when he offered to deliver refills. He better be serious about this drink deliver because she was going to wait for him.
Jessica was just proving to be a fun person the more Genny saw of her reactions. She was almost the complete opposite of her nervous friend. "Ahhh," Genny sighed dramatically when Jess asked about why she signed him up. "WELL, yes. Davie is someone who you have to push into social situations? I think he's a great person, he's intelligent and good looking but this whole brooding persona he's taken on since we turned thirteen is hindering some people from knowing who he is. So, I signed him up! To meet people. Beautiful people." DATE. She signed him up to find a date. Or two. Or three. She was a good friend not to say it out loud though. It wasn't hard to know the underlying meaning behind Genny's words, though. "Why did you sign up?" She was interested in hearing the answer from a normal person as opposed to a forceful friend.
Chloe's family was proving to be the family Genny had always wanted (just kidding, Genny actually adored her parents no matter how Quidditch-less they were). "Oh wow! You have to tell me their full names, I must know of them! I've been into Quidditch since I was... five? Maybe four." Genny can't remember a time where she didn't play or go to Quidditch games. "You don't seem to play, though." What a weird turnout for her family, huh? That she didn't play. Quote:

SPEAKING of Quidditch! Genny saw the head of sports across the greenhouse, Victoria, and squeaked excitedly. She was definitely going to go say hi once Davie came back! Maybe ALL of them should go and say hi. SQUEAK. Quote:

That was interesting.
"Almost didn't think you'd return," Kat replied. Many would take at least a year or two away, so five to her was quite some time. "But it's great to have familiar faces come back." The blond has indeed seen so many people from their department come and go, both temporarily and permanently.
"I would say it's been the same old, work as usual." Except she wasn't about to bring up that misty expedition to Hogwarts three years ago. That experience left invisible scars in Kat. "That aside, I'm also worried about the vortex situation at Hogwarts. My eldest, it's her first year there." No communication of any kind just wasn't sitting well with the enforcement head.
Enough of that rather troubling news, though. "What about you? What were you up to in the past five years?" Eureka nodded smiling at Conley when he left the scene, she was definitely going to see more of him when she started her work. She turned back to Kat, holding her drink with two fingers, "Five years were more than I planned. I essentially went there for research with the Norwegian Ministry of Magic. Then they offered me a research degree if I stayed for a while and I enjoyed research so I stayed." She sipped from her glass. "Although to be honest, even I didn't know if I wanted to come back or not." Not until a months ago.
Kat had a daughter in Hogwarts? Did Eureka know Kat had a child even? She looked slightly worried at what Kat said. "I can't say I understand, but I'm sure it's hard for you. Hogwarts is a great school, I loved my time there more than in Durmstrang, but it's hard." In fact, ever since her grandfather passed away her last year there, Eureka couldn't push herself to even talk of the school. She didn't share her feelings now, though, Kat was already worried enough as it was.
"Oh I'm good, thanks for asking. I settled in, rekindled some friendships here and there." Particularly one that she was happy about. "Just excited to be back, I love working with Olivia." Olly. Though she refused to call her something other than Olivia, it seemed disrespectful. Quote:

I will get in touch if I ever get to go to India, too, if you're free." Eureka would love to go and experience that rich culture. It was rooted deeply in history. He was there for eleven years, too, wow! "That's quite impressive, Ambassador. You must really understand the context there, and like living there. Do you have your family with you?" Because how else would he tolerate being away, ya know? |
