Oh, look at that, the professor was there THE WHOLE ENTIRE TIME. And he was making a PUN with the TOADS on the STOOL.
"HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA," Bernie let out a loud groan-laugh for the professorman. She liked Rainwater, did he know that? Who else would devote the whole start-of-class to a DAD JOKE? Oh man, she was going to have to write this one down and send it to her dad. Haaaaa. He'd love it.
Bernie wiped a solitary laugh-tear away from her eye and then thrust her hand into the air for an answer. "Some toadstools leap and hop, LIKE REAL TOADS, sir."
Were they going to look at those ones today? Because Bernie wasn't an expert on any of this stuff, but she was pretty sure the leaping, hopping toadstools were the same ones that had popped up in her older brother's video game. Don't ask her why he spent 8 hours a day that one summer pretending to be a plumber with a big mustache, and why she spent 4-6 hours sitting next to him, watching him play the game, but never being allowed to play it herself. This was how siblings worked. This was how summer worked. Anyway, she would ALSO have to write to HIM to see if he'd believe her when she told him the hopping mushrooms were REAL, if, of course, they actually got to see any today. AND OH OH OH, was THIS why the one mushroom-looking character in her brother's OTHER PLUMBER GAME was named TOAAAAAAAAD? TOAD for TOADSTOOL?!?!
Whoaaaaaaaaa. Mind blown. Video games were designed by wizards. Bernie would have to tell Schmoe this revelation!!!!
