He could still recall so vividly the ice cream date prior to his starting at Hogwarts when he had JUST received his wand and the whole THING that had come about because of his fwooper core.

Now, at the ripe age of 20 and no longer a vagabond but a somewhat reluctant university student, Derf was making his way towards Florean's with Clara on her leash. She had been particularly fussy to get out and with Chloe taking a double shift at her work he felt horrible about leaving her home alone.

So here they were.

And there Jessa was.

"Jessa!" he called with a wave, just as he had done practically every summer prior. "Sorry. Reckon you were waiting a bit," he apologizes while switching Clara's leash between hands as she scurried around in circles at his feet. "Clara got into some of the supplies so we had to take a bath before coming." Which was why he smelled particularly of doggie shampoo.

She sorta needed to stand so he could give her a hug though, you know?

Jessa was on her feet the moment Derf got close enough, her arms extending easily for a hug. Hugs, when involving the right people, could be lovely. Derf's hugs were among the ones Jessa liked. She'd been getting them for ages. Long before they were ever ruined for her. "I don't mind. The quiet was nice." Especially nice after her morning with the boys. They were lovely, but sometimes they were loud.

...

...Most.

Most times they were loud.

Jessa watched the eager dog run about her master, admittedly more interested in the fluidity of movement and consistency than the actual dog but she was careful not to spare too long a look. It helped, for fine tuning her cats.

"Was it something toxic or inconvenient?" Whatever Clara had gotten into.
