The great thing about platonic love in books is that it shows you what a friendship can and should be.
My favorite book series is the
The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. Like LOTR, it explores the fellowship of a small group of companions as they travel and fight evil. Specifically the 4th book
Taran Wanderer explores, among other things, the relationship between the series' main character Taran and his faithful companion Gurgi. Their journey together in this book shows how important a good and faithful friend can be when facing the unknown, disappointment, and eventually self-acceptance.
