Knocking a woman to the ground on his very first Ministry appearance. As soon as he was sure she wouldn't fall, he quickly slid his arm back to his side. Slightly awkward, he supposed, but what was he supposed to do? Let her fall to the ground?

Surprisingly, her voice carried a heavy accent. Was that German he detected? "It's quite alright," he reassured her with a charming smile. "Just be glad you didn't knock over my champagne. If that was the case, I don't know if I would have been so forgiving." Not true, as he didn't even really like champagne, but it made for easy conversation. Sure, he might not necessarily enjoy large social gatherings, but it didn't mean he couldn't use his surprisingly stellar socialization skills if necessary. He extended his hand to the woman in greeting. "I'm Ryder. And I'm new here, if you couldn't tell by my bewildered expression and my apparent propensity to stand in the corner by myself."

Okay, now this was a situation that Ryder Medina didn't quite know how to handle. It was rare that he was socially stumped - he could usually come up with a witty remark to at least get by. How were you to politely tell someone that you weren't quite interested in that gender? Not that he had any problems with that. He knew and supported plenty of people with different orientations. It was just that women were more his cup of tea. "Er, no. No escort for me tonight," he said with a light laugh, slightly perplexed by this man's forwardness. And the term escort? Is that what the French called dates? Ryder looked down at his champagne, racking his brain for a polite response to this....proposition. Glancing next to him to where Katrina was still standing, he suddenly had an idea. "I appreciate the offer, sir, but I already promised her my next dance." He extended his arm out to the woman, giving her a knowing look as if to say, Please, for Merlin's sake, just play along!.

She was always alone with her thoughts when she walked, and some of her thoughts were quite eccentric. "I'm Katrina. I'm new as well. What department do you work in?", she inquired, as she introduced herself. It was always nice to know more about people you just met.

Katrina noticed a man walking towards them. He had a heavy French accent, and he seemed to be flirting with Ryder. She quickly looked back at Ryder as he mentioned her, and her instincts took a while to adjust to the situation. "Wha- Oh yes, of course.", she said, playing along, "Shall we?" She took his hand and hoped that they wouldn't actually dance, because she was horrible at it. Yes, she was more worried about her terrible dancing skills than Ryder's awkwardness.

Ooooo….apparently Valentin hit a nerve! Excellent! He always did enjoy making others uncomfortable. Perhaps he could make it a little more uncomfortable. He took a small sip for his glass as his brown eyes darted back and forth between the handsome young man and the lady he was pleading with to help him out. Oh yes, Valentin was quite used to the straight-man plead for help when he hit on them. A bit Cheshire grin formed on Valentine’s face. ”What a pitay. Pairhaps you can save me la last dance, non?” he was trying very very hard not to chuckle. ” Ai promize to lét you lead.” He winked at the lovely young lady. ” Mademoiselle, yur drez eez quite stunneng. Pairhaps you too weehl save me a dance? And ai promize ai weehl not stép on you toes.” This time he did laugh.
