With her stomach satisfied by a small but delicious meal, the first year located the classroom. “Good day, Professor,’’ she said, quietly, her eyes boring into the man’s. Schmoe was his name, right? What kind of name was that? Claudine marveled that parents gave their offspring stupid names. Not having anything else to say, her intense gaze swung to the board. Create a name tent? That was something she could do.

Once seated towards the back of the class (on a bench), she took the paper provided and folded it neatly into a tent. It was easy for her to do as she did have a bit of an artistic talent. Once done, her name was printed neatly and boldly with her pencil:

Of course Finneas had skipped his lunch (something he would regret in approximately ten minutes) in order to arrive an entire two hours early. He was... antsy in anticipation (HA) for the first lesson of the year. But he had managed to find a comfortable position leaning against his desk, his focus on the Rubik's cube in his hands when the first student arrived. "... G-good day," he echoed back, looking up briefly and giving her an incredibly awkward, over-eager... toothy sort of grin.

So! there she was, bright eyed and ready, with her hair carefully braided and her robes just right, and ready to learn despite her full stomach suggesting a nap.

This time she walked into class, Yoyo was assuming that no matter how wacky the classroom the professor would be just as much a stickler for safety as Beryl had been- it was really wacky though. bright colors and weird furniture- she believed she spotted a chair that had? actual moss growing on it. Yoyo hummed, tapping her chin as she considered where to sit- she was second in, and had second pick and Yoyo was clever enough to know not to squander this opportunity. There was a chair near the front, a little bright green bean bag that looked really comfortable but wouldn’t it be difficult to take notes sitting like that? She could go for the stool and pretend to be tall like that Hufflepuff third year with the long name- oh! or she could go for that funny looking Hand Chair- So many choices, too many choices, to easily make the decision. “Hey Professor Schmoe, did you have a good lunch? French food is so different.” about as different as apples to pears. At long last, Yoyo hopped over to the green bag and settled her bum right in- it was just as comfortable as she’d hoped. Taking up the little paper and pen, Yoyo wrote down her name as the professor had and laid it out on her mushroom shaped desk.

Leaning against his desk was no longer comfortable was anything ever comfortable when your name is Finneas Schmoe?, and so the lanky Professor decided not to lean. He was standing when Yoyo made her way inside. His thumb awkwardly fiddled with his Cube as he looked next to her. "... Yes," immediately forgetting that he did not, in fact, eat lunch today. And then immediately remembering. And then, "Expanding the palette. Heh?" He was going to shut his mouth now.

Forcing a smile in Schmoe's direction, Odaline turned to find somewhere to sit and was greeted with............ pandemonium. Why wasn't it normal? Where were the normal things to sit on? Why weren't the tables normal? Why wasn't it normal? She looked back over at the Professor and considered briefly (very briefly) if there was enough reason for her to speak to him now.

Yes. There was.

"I want normal chair." Simple enough?

Why were there buckets? Were they to encourage no bathroom usage during class time so students just went in their chair? This wasn't a French thing. She knew that much.

No, no more standing. He was going to sit. On his chair. Because sitting was better than standing.

Until this. This was... unexpected. And unplanned for. And Finneas' face went almost as red as it went during the Feast. UM. His eyes moved from one end of the room to another in a brief moment of panic as he quickly jumped up from his chair and uh uh uh uh was forced to think on his TOES. "You.... can..... use my chair for this lesson." YES. Excellent thinking, Schmoe! Heh heh heh. ANYWAY.

Anyway. Anyway. He grabbed his chair, clunk clunk CLUNKing it along as he quite literally dragged it out from behind his own desk and moved it to sit in front of one of the more normal desks in the middle of he room. And an uncomfortable smile to finish it off!!!!!!!! She wouldn't cry, right? Because she could have whatever she wanted!!! As long as she didn't cry. Because. Yes.

They just weren't always at the forefront of her mind when she spoke. But she had them.

Anyways....

Gosh, Oda was always so difficult, wasn't she? Didn't know what fun was. Nor what "normal" was, apparently. Not that Siobhán knew what normal was. Was there even such a thing as "normal"? Well, either way, she didn't perceive any of the furniture in here as "not normal" so clearly her idea of "normal" and Oda's differed greatly.

"Come sit with me on the bench!" That was.......like when they had food, yeah? Was that what Oda considered to be normal? Sort of? She tapped the other girl on the arm as she passed her and went to sit on said bench. Yes, she would have much rather sat on one of the more FUN and COLORFUL seating options but...but...but...well, Oda was being difficult.

”Thank you,” his face lit up with the momentary confidence booster that ‘so cool’ gave him. Yeah. He could be cool and hip and one with the youths. It almost even made him forget this disastrous chair situation. Almost. It was hard to forget when you were standing right at the frontline, as he was.

Well… He had done his part. Dragged the chair. Now Odaline had options. His chair. Or bench with her… friend? Yes. Well. Finneas was just going to… take…. a step…. in that… direction… where…. you know…. ANYWAY.

Hmm....ok she got one

Yep, the redhed liked that and placed it on her desk. Really like any professor who knew her would know she would not take this seriously. And of course she picked one with a beanbag chair. She was a mature fifth year

Snort.

Finneas was still addressing Odaline's chair situation when Eloise made her way into the classroom. "Oh-ho," he spun around to greet the girl with an awkward smile and a delayed response. "Fantastic, Ms....... Soul," he eyed her name tent with suspicion.

He wasn't born yesterday. He KNEW.... that her first name couldn't possibly just be the letter 'R'. That would be a ridiculous name.

"I'm excited for your class today!" That wasn't necessarily saying much considering the fact that Alexandre was almost always excited, but still.

He turned his attention to the classroom and stopped for a few seconds as he took in the sight. This was definitely not what he had been expecting to see when he walked into this (or any) classroom. These were not the usual desks and chairs. He thought it was fun, though! Alexandre considered for a moment, and then made his way toward a tall chair and desk. It was tall enough that his feet didn't touch the floor, which was always fun. Once there, he took out a sheet of parchment and proceeded to make a name tent as instructed. He wrote out his name and placed the tent on the desk in front of him.

Finneas was walking right back to the front of the room when young Pascal walked into the room. "Hello student!" he greeted back with just as much enthusiasm, a strange wave, and a whole lotta regret. It was.... an immediate reaction. "That's," was his smile too big? Did it look like he was thinking too hard about it? (Because he was). "Greeeaaaaaaat."

Almost.

"Something for every taste. That was good thinking, Professor!" Cecelia offered the guy a grin and a thumbs up before moving to find herself a seat, preferably one by Yoyo, who got an enthusiastic finger wiggle in greeting. "Bet that one is comfy." The beanbag one. It was a good choice! After a little consideration, Cece opted for a bright blue chair that was MORE like a giant bouncy ball with four legs. Comfy AND fun. She LIKED it. As for her desk, it was this cute orange old looking thing made of wood. Good for notes and banging her knees if she bounced too much on her chair which was also a ball.

After settling there, she got out her pen and in her BEST handwriting, carefully wrote out her name. Then she folded her paper into a little tent, name facing the professor, and she was ready to GO.

With each new student to walk in, there was a new opportunity to embarrass himself. Which meant he quite nearly dropped his Rubik's cube right as Cecelia entered. Nearly. But he caught it!!

Oh no, he did not ca-- Oh wait, spoke to soo-- OH NO he didn'-- Oh, oh, oh YES. He caught it. Barely. But at what cost? Because he was all the way bent over when Cecelia offered a greeting and had to look up at her with his back all curled. He did, however, offer her a single thumbs up in return. Cool and hip and one with the kids. That's Schmoe, alright.

She was only attending this class to help her House, and also because she wanted to try to see what the REAL wizard kids did and did NOT know about Muggleborns. She was still very embarrassed by her heritage.

She climbed up onto a tall stool, hoping that the height would help her stay awake after a VERY filling lunch of salad and fruit pssssssh psych!, and started working on her name "tent" as the professor called it.

"There." Bernie announced, settling hers on the edge of her desk, and then promptly resting her chin on her fist in a very dejected manner.

He was right-side up again, if that was a concern.

And he also appreciated students that didn't make him do the whole student-professor greeting business. That was nice of her. He hated that part too. It made him antsy. Though the sour face was ... concerning. Was it the bowtie? Some people really hated bowties.

Anyway (anyway anyway), this was a new term, and a new professor, who was a completely unknown entity. Kaiser didn't have the first clue what to expect, so he had decided to expect the unexpected.

Which meant he wasn't... well... totally surprised by the room set-up. Just... a little.

"Hm." Well. Okay. "Afternoon."

What was his name again? Fine-... Kaiser squinted at the ~name tent~. No. Finneas. Finneas... Schmoe. Well... at least it wasn't an easy name to forget.

After scanning the available seating options for a moment, Kaiser eventually went for one of the comfortable looking cushions on the floor, though ideally he probably should have gone for a more uncomfortable chair to keep himself awake. His body liked to torment him like that; refuse to sleep at night, and then relent when he was sat in class.

None of these weird desks was really doing it for him, so he claimed one of the smaller chairs to use as a makeshift desk for himself - hopefully there was more than enough chairs in here for the students, because he wasn't really willing to give it up. A few moments later, and he had made a ~name tent~ for himself, and propped it up on the seat of his chair-desk.

Sure, he may have made the writing quite small, but it wasn't intentional. Probably.

Afternoon. "Yes." It was afternoon. "Thursday." It was also Thursday and that was also a fact. He liked this game.

Anyway, AnYwAy, ANYWAY. His name tent had very tiny, tiny writing. Which. Was. Not. Ideal. Schmoe had to SQUINT. Which made him look even NERDIER than usual. Thanks, kid.

Not as if the man had done this on purpose but as if, well, the Professor couldn't get proper desks and chairs and decided to improvise. It was..... odd. Comfortable but odd.

Shrugging, the fourth year walked further into the room, maybe even turning around to look at everything as he walked, before his eyes found the Professor. "Hello, Professor." Cue a small smile from the Gryffindor. He..... wasn't going to ask about the setup. Maybe the man would explain and save him the trouble. Or maybe he just liked being whacky and wanted to surprise them. He didn't know.

Something he did know was that he wasn't sitting on a bucket. He wasn't doing it.

Instead, he chose a cushion that came with a small enough desk. The floor - or the cushion on the floor - sounded like a much better answer and he was taking it. It was..... difficult getting his long legs under this small bit of desk but when he did, he found another problem: the legs of the desk liked to sit on his legs instead of the floor. He could even lift it up without using his hands.

Yeaaaaaaaaah, this wasn't awkward-looking, was it?

Moving would be even more awkward after he'd already sat down so..... he started making his name tent and setting it on this small desk. There.

Y'know, to be fair. A classroom like this would've confused the heck out of student!Schmoe too. But it was too late for that. "Good, mmm, afternoon," he chimed back, his eyes curiously following the boy as he chose a place to sit.

Oh. That did not look comfortable. Schmoe almost wanted to point out that there were plenty of other options... But then he didn't. Because he finished his Cube.

Um. Who exactly thought of the decor choices? Because she was very confused. Had she come to the right classroom? She glanced back at the door number. Nope. This was the right one. Interesting. "Good afternoon, Professor... Schmoe", she greeted him, still with a confused look on her face. She sat down on a stool that had a cushion on it. She quickly made a name tent before observing the very abnormal classroom.

Ha, ha, ha. Rubik's cubes, amiright? Finneas looked up from the object in his hands to briefly make eye-contact with the young girl. Beady eyes. Fleeting stares. Awkward smile. All in a days work! She finally pulled up a beanbag beside Cece and leaned her head against her friend's shoulder for a moment. "Oh, hello, Professor Schmoe! Why don't you sit on a beanbag too? They're like a chair but ooooozy." She demonstrated by oozing out of her seat onto the floor. Perfect.

As for her name tent, Phoebe preferred a name yert, and she folded her paper into a round, pointy thing with her name scrawled all the way around.

"That's a...." he paused, the mini-Schmoes in his head were running around trying to find the right words to finish the sentence. "... suggestion." He smiled far too widely. It wasn't a good suggestion because he couldn't teach if he was slinking in a beanbag chair. But he couldn't say that it was a bad suggestion because there is no such thing.

It was............................. unhelpful. But he continued to smile in that weirdly uncomfortable way of his. Because. Well. Anyway.

Beanbags and buckets were not conductive to studying. Particularly when said beanbag squished down so much that not even your brow reached the edge of the desk. Strike one for this new professor on one Eiji Rasting taking him seriously.

Not bothering to say anything to the professor other than a cursory glance as he made his way over towards the desk beside Trinetta's which had a bucket to use as a seat, the fifth year fell victim to his irritation muttered to himself about the impracticality of it all. Honestly, with how elaborate Beauxbatons was...this professor had clearly gone out of his way to make his classroom as impractical as possible. James Eiji Rasting was not here for it.

And he didn't even know what a name tent was and had a bit too much pride to ask - and he was clouded by his frustrations which, naturally, meant resulted in his Slytherin brand of tunnel vision. The man wanted a tent from paper? Eiji was going to give him just that. Which meant that the fifth year soon set to methodically folding his piece of paper with sharp, crisp, lines until he had his end product and scribbled his name on it.

".....what are the chances of my getting a detention for using magic to make sitting on this bucket more bearable?" he leaned over to whisper to Trinetta.

............ Well. He supposed that was one way to do it. Though, like the name yert... It did not entirely fulfill the purpose of the name tent. But Schmoe gave the kid an uncomfortable smile anyway. Because. Well. He.... Did do what was asked?

It was so hard to please everyone. Hogwarts (?) Beaxbatons (?) Hogwarts at Beauxbatons (??) was a very difficult crowd. It's a good thing Schmoe couldn't read minds. He was fidgeting in his blissful ignorance as Anna walked in and took a seat. He was.... slightly concerned about the fact that she couldn't see above the desk, but also he'd probably never make eye contact with her anyway SO IT WAS FINE.

Even if she still hadn’t quite figured out how she was going to keep up with practice when she hadn’t found a decent pitch yet. She was itching to take her broom out for a spin, yet somehow she felt as if it was frowned upon. There had to be a break between classes for that to even be feasible anyhow, but she was trying to keep her hopes up. Maybe they’d still get to play Quidditch somehow. She wouldn’t have to feel like she let her U-17 team down next time she was able to practice with them.

Either way, she was staying hopeful, and the sight that greeted her upon making her way up to the designated classroom for the first Muggle Studies lesson hadn’t shocked her too much. Professor Schmoe had looked a bit eccentric at the feast, after all. Not that it was a bad thing. She just figured they’d all have to get used to it, especially if the classroom stayed like this for future lessons.

Not seeing Carsyn in the room yet, or Cole, not that she remembered if either of them actually had chosen this as an elective, she decided to just choose a seat at random, ending up with a fluffy beanbag that rather looked like she was sitting on an enlarged puffskein, complete with a desk that looked a bit like the creature’s tongue twisted back on itself. It was comfier than it looked, actually, and she set about making the piece of paper into a decent name tent. Complete with little handwriting flourishes that she’d come up with earlier that were totally appropriate to her personality.

Finneas continued to check his watch as the flow of incoming students began to lessen. Was it time yet? He was starting to get nervous. Not that he wasn't nervous before... Please be the latter, Tina thought. Maybe something about how non magiques (since she was back at Beauxbatons, she was going to use the French term for them) make furniture? Or about the way they decorate their homes - or probably more likely, how not to decorate if one wants to blend in with them?

"Good afternoon, Professor," Tina greeted politely upon her arrival. She didn't know what to make of him. It was too early to form an opinion, but she doubted she'd like him as much as she had Professor Stewart... though stranger things could happen. She didn't expect to like Professor O'Hara either, and she became Tina's favorite professor.

Tina's dark eyes scanned the room, searching for the seat and desk with the least dramatic height difference. She didn't want to have to reach up or lean down at a weird angle to take notes! She eventually settled on what looked like a piano bench. As soon as she was done arranging her supplies neatly on the desk in front of her, she noticed the directions on the board. She took out a spare sheet of parchment, folded it, and wrote her name... but she didn't stop there. The name tent looked somehow lacking, so ever the artist, she decorated it with a swarm of butterflies.

It was a very good thing that he knew nothing about the large shoes he had to fill. It would've made Finneas even MORE nervous than he already was. Checking his watch (yet again) he gave the girl a fleeting smile. "Hello," nametents were going to be very useful as he walked the classroom to memorize names and faces. Too bad he didn't know them yet.

Finneas leaned back on his desk, periodically checking his watch as students trickled in. And wouldya look at that?

It's.................................... SCHMOE TIME!

Ha, ha, ha. Ho, ho, ho.

One round of excessive blinking later, Finneas stood up and centered himself at the front of the room. "Welcome to... Muggle Studies," because that's where they were. Was anyone in the wrong classroom? Because now would be the time to... exit. "I'm Professor Schmoe... Unfortunately we do not have a permanent classroom this term... But if you keep an eye on the noticeboard... I will keep you updated... constantly." Yes, well, AnYwAy. He quickly walked back to his desk to set down the Rubik's cube he had been holding and again began to address the class.

"As you may be aware," or may not be aware. There were always the few. "I am new this year... As are all of you in a way. New to this castle, anyway," because they were displaced school to school. Y'know. Well. ANYWAY. "There's a lot to get used to, but especially the new decor. Some of you may like how ... different Beauxbatons looks and others of you may .... well, not." He paused again. "Maybe some of you have even took to redecorating your dormitories or adding little touches to your bed posts." The decorating was also quite evident in some of the name tents.

Not to get too anthropological, but basically... "Humans often have an implicit need for belonging. Comfort.
