But the urge to balance on two legs was now even more stronger than it had been before she had told him not to do it. He tried to keep himself busy by tracing the numbers he had written down over and over again, so they were soon printed on his parchment in extra thick lines. Before long, though, they were moving on.

One thing Kaiser was sure of; if this lesson was just the basics and he was already struggling with it, he had very little hope for the rest of the term. He listened to Professor Sissay's instructions, but realised after not that long that he had started to glaze over again. Shaking his head as though to clear it, he tried to tune in once more.

Once they were told to get on with it, Kaiser paused and looked around to see what everyone around him was doing, and maybe sneaking a peek at his neighbours' parchments here and there. Analysing the numbers, right. He pulled his parchment towards him and started his own work.
