Was it terribly awful of him that he was really looking forward to this lesson?

He had his reasons, they were entertaining reasons and while he wasn’t quite sure how the students would react, he was ready to get the ball rolling—once 11 rolled in of course. For now, the man contented himself with standing by the door replying to greetings.

Oh merlin he was going to enjoy this. Did he seem like he was in a good mood? Because he was in a good mood. No one had crashed his office with upsetting news yet. All was good.

As he approached the door, the professor was ready to greet as always. "Good morning, Headmaster. I hope you had a good summer." Jackson went in and noticed the lack of seating. Jackson decided to stand a bit towards the side for now, preparing for the inevitable semi-circle they would make around the Headmaster once 11:00 hit.

”Excellent summer, actually!” The man replied with quite a bit of enthusiasm. It had been a good summer, for what it was worth. Sun, sand, beaches, his family and no furry pink things trying to EAT said family. There wasn’t much more he could ask for.

”I trust you had a productive summer?” He understood that summer was meant for forgetting there was such a thing as school but this would be the year of the NEWTs for the boy and that warranted some amount of prep.

”Morning, Swann.” He returned, his tone light as he rocked back onto his heels just once before regaining his stance. There had been some worry surrounding the girl last term. ”Hope everything’s alright now, or getting there at the very least.” The girl had had a few things that she needed to work through. Trent could only hope she was now on her way to better days. She was another NEWT one afterall.

”Look alive, Firstie.” Names, he would certainly get to learning the little people’s names soon. The first lesson was not when that would be happening. ”We’ve got a whole class ahead of us, you can jog in place if you think you need a bit of a waker upper.” Because falling asleep was not something he’d tolerate and while a yawn was by no means indication of someone’s intent to fall asleep then and there, yawns were contagious little buggers. He’d have a sleeping epidemic in no time and how would they stay alive during the lesson if they were sleeping? Important questions.

This was one of the lessons that was mostly hands on and she loved it.

"Good morning, Headmaster." She greeted the man with a warm smile. Moving more into the room, Rylee found a spot to stand and wait for the lesson to begin, bouncing lightly on the balls of her feet.

See, see this one looked more ready for the lesson ahead. Not a yawn in sight and a bounce in her step. Would that more of them showed up to class like this….or not. On second thought that might have freaked him out even a little. EVERYONE couldn’t be chipper and that was okay. This one was and earned herself a warm response in turn. ”Morning, Prichard.”

Nevertheless she made her way forward, "Good morning Headmaster.", and stood by herself against the newly renovated and padded walls. Great, looks like some people may go flying today. She thought.

Did it bothered him that this one wasn’t particularly enthused upon entry? Not really. So long as the Hufflepuff came prepared to work and had a good head about her for when the activity rolled around, there was really nothing for him to concern himself about. ”Good morning.” Hopefully she wasn’t a screamer. That sort wouldn’t have too great a time in this lesson.

Stepping into the classroom, Kaiser only needed to look around very briefly for the headmaster, as he found him very close to the door. "Morning," he said, the generic greeting almost automatic by now. Apparently unfazed by the appearance of the classroom, Kaiser sloped off to find a space near the wall that he could stand in, slipping his wand out of his pocket as he went. He was on his guard. Never really off his guard, to be honest. Maybe that was why he got on so well with this class.

That was more like it. It was good seeing the Slytherin back in school robes looking ready for the term ahead. A step up from the disheveled boy he’d run into at the feast. They’d need to keep it this way.

”Morning. Had a stop in with the Healer yet?” While the boy didn’t appear to be dying when he saw him last, you could never be too careful. Better safe than sorry, yeah? That was nearly the basis of everything he was teaching them. It paid to be prepared and stay on top of things.

So used to entering especially this classroom and having a completely unique room greet her, the reaction it got from the Ravenclaw was of curiosity as she took in the surroundings. Nowhere near as detailed and vast as the swamp from last term, though. No, it was a padded room. As for the why, they would find out soon enough.

And there was another student he could count on to show up to class looking in a proper mood. The smile he returned was an easy one. ”Morning Newton.” Yep good mood all around. The look of curiosity plain in the girl’s expression made him all the more ready to begin. He may have been the only one looking forward to this but it didn’t make it any less exciting for the man.

And this one was a hopper. Enthusiasm was enthusiasm, the man supposed and the kid was far less likely to injure himself in this padded room so Malachi simply returned the greeting with a nod. Walking with his walking boot for his ankle he joined his classmates in room 104. But he stopped just inside of the door, "Morning... Headmaster." Noticing all of the padding in the room he suddenly felt heat rising up his neck. Why in the world would the headmaster need a padded room. His palms began to sweat as he slowly walked further into the room joining some of his classmates.

This one...this one didn’t look quite so enthused as his classmates did. In fact the boy almost looked ill after walking into the room and taking a proper look around.

”Looking a bit green in the gills there Dooley. You alright?” Was he going to pass out or otherwise have a melt down? If so, it was best he get it over with before they got into the activity when such things would no longer be….ideal…..

Thankfully the classroom wasn't that difficult to be found since she still needed to get adjust by this castle. Why on earth the staffs did not provide a map for a new student like her? The Hufflepuff should've come with her fellow but somehow she was left behind since she needed to do her morning skin care routine first, hehe. But that's okay, maybe next time Aurora should've asked one of her roomies to wait... if any of them wanted to.

"Good day, Headmaster." She greeted the man while stepping into the classroom. Well, this was a mostly practical class so Aurora wasn't really surprised with the lack of chair and desk presence. She decided to approach her roommate. "Hey, you left without me." She flashed a cheeky grin towards the curly-haired girl.

Oh look, another new student whose name he’d have to work at remembering. Suffice to say Trent couldn’t wait til the point in the term when he was comfortably on a name basis with them all. It’d make taking the register easier and would reduce those “hey you” moments when the name simply wasn’t coming. ”Good day to you, too.” For now, ambiguous greetings.

He folded his arms over each other while he waited for his classmates to come in and the lesson to start.

Well this was refreshing. Malachi watched the Ravenclaw enter the room, noting the obvious change in disposition from the previous term. ”I like what I’m seeing, Katharos. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come from you.” The boy had always been hardworking and left the man with no doubt he could get his work done but when one walked into a room like THAT, clearly they had something to show everyone else and the man was keen to see it, whatever it was. Okay. She was ready to Defend Against Dark Stuff.

It would seem Katharos had picked up a shadow, another of the little people whose names evaded him. There were quite a few of those, weren’t they? It was one of the only things that really bothered him about the start of term, going back to square one with names and familiarity. Almost made him feel like he was back in his first year on the job. ”Good morning.” Yes, that would do for now.

Ellie surveyed the white padded room with no desks and chairs in sight as she went further in. She stopped near her housemate Stella and greeted kindly. "Hi Stella! Do you think we'll be meeting some dark creatures today?"

Oh look, another bright one ripe for learning. It did his heart some marginal amount of good to see the students come in, ready to receive a solid education. Even more amusing? Hearing them make little guesses about what the lesson could possibly entail.

”Morning.” The pile of nameless students was getting bigger. You’d think at some point he’d whip out the class roster and at least make small attempts to put names to faces but this was probably for the better. The littlest were more prone to crying for their parents. If things got out of hand—as crying would surely have things be—he’d know their names, suddenly he’d be imagining a whole backstory. It made the Slytherin shiver in response as she took another step inside. Her eyes bounced from one end of the room to the other, trying to understand her surroundings before she look for Professor Trent. He never was difficult to find.

She liked that about him. His face was another thing she liked about him. "Good morning, Headmaster Trent," and yes, she smiled. It was quite a rare occurrence that only few were privy to. Their Headmaster was one of the few. She didn't typically greet her Professors with much more than a nod either... But Malachi Trent would always receive Nina Castillo's very best.

But again, the room was still off-putting. Nina was never one to love change and this was no exception. She quickly moved for a corner of the room, wanting to edge away from the center as quickly as possible. She found herself nearest Kaiser, and gave the boy a curious look. He was a very peculiar boy. She liked that about him.

”Looking sharp as ever, Castillo.” He replied. There was always a bit of sunshine in this one--from what he saw anyway--and it was a nice contrast to some who walked in looking like the entire world was coming to an end or they were being sentenced to 47 years hard labour. Granted, his classes did usually require a fair bit of heavy lifting when it wasn’t theory based but he didn’t think it was that bad.

”Morning McCarthy.” He’d heard a lot about this one, courtesy of a certain Gryffindor taking remedial classes. Indeed, there was now a set of students that the Headmaster felt he knew entirely too much about thanks to a certain Gryffindor. Ah and here was Dakest. Malachi turned to the young boy, understanding that sometimes he felt running and certainly a little screaming couldn’t hurt a given situation. Today would be the exact day that something like that would be il-advised and as a responsible adult, he felt he had to caution the boy.

”Morning, Dakest. Ready for the lesson? I need you to scream. Just get it out, right now. Imagine the worst thing that could possibly happen then really let go. Think absolute dooms day. Greeting the man with his usual polite nod of the head, the fourth year hovered somewhere around the back of the pack and folded his arms across his chest and waited.

It was an understanding by now. He wouldn’t be getting much in the way of enthusiasm from this one and that was just how things were going to be. It was fine. "Morning, Headmaster!" The enthusiasm was maybe, clearly, obviously forced, but he didn't want to present himself as anything other. It felt like bad manners to him, and the subject was always a fun one, no matter if he did appear dead on his feet.

Shaking himself (more awake, hopefully), Aaron took stock of the room again and just stood somewhere. Near a few Slytherins. Days without desks and chairs in DADA were utterly exhausting, but he was here. Yes, hi.

Malachi raised a brow at this one. It was a strange greeting coming from Botros for the simple fact it was overly superficial and not quite like what Botros usually was. That was the benefit of a magical school, he supposed. Classroom was a loose term. The room that he walked into definitely was not what one would think of when hearing the word classroom. Indigo glanced around just briefly before his gaze landed on the headmaster. "Morning pr- Headmaster." He was never sure what to call the man in this sort of instance. He was their professor but he was still the headmaster.

Indigo glanced around, and quickly made his way over to Vita. He silently greeted her with a soft shoulder bump as he came to stand by her. Once he was solidly in place he looked around the room again. But, to be honest, he probably shouldn't have. It was making him feel sort of claustrophobic.

He caught the small fumble, smiling just a little to himself in amusement. The double title did throw students off quite a bit. Usually the man was fine with responding to whichever was offered during the lesson. Around the castle he was the Headmaster but in the Defense setting, he was fine shifting gears to professor mode. It was, afterall, what he was doing by default of teaching the subject.

”Morning, Rousseau.” He opted to draw no attention to the earlier slip up. It didn’t make much of a difference.

The Headmaster cracked a wide grin at this one. "Absolutely, McCarthy. Last ditch effort to save you all from the real deal. I'm glad someone's seen through my little farce of a lesson." Was it bad that he didn't actually consider how this room might have otherwise looked to the students until she said it. There were worst things he'd both heard and caught the students doing. This was a much easier fix. "Either's fine while we're in the classroom." Little person. Little person #6? Yes, this one could be #6 until he finally got around to learning the names of the new students. Only thing now was remembering that she was meant to be #6. Perhaps assigning them colours would have been easier.

As comfortable as anyone could be when faced with any manner of artificial dark creatures. Hinkypunks, trolls, even the very real red caps from that disastrous lesson with (former) headmaster Scrimgeour. She did enjoy learning how to defend herself, even as she kept up with her dueling practice as well as the innumerable extracurriculars she’d taken on and still not dropped even as she knew people questioned how she could manage it all.

She’d had a bright smile for the headmaster as she passed him on her way into the classroom. “Hello Headmaster Trent,” she greeted him, only afterward noticing how bright the classroom was with all the white. All the white padding, as she’d investigated the walls closer and came to a stop near one. It made her wonder what they’d be studying in the lesson. Obviously they weren’t about to get hurt by their surroundings.

"Hello to you, too." He greeted, a welcoming smile in place just seconds before he glanced down at his watch. It was getting to be starting time soon and he was rather ready to begin. Sure there was a lot of ground that would need covering but they'd get to the part he wanted eventually.

This was really weird but he was sure it was going to be really fun. Anything having to do with extra padding always was!

He wasn't wrong, there was still a bit of time left before the door was shut and sealed. Whether it was luck or a good bit of athleticism, this one would not be getting locked out today. Good for him. "Hey there." Another glance at his watch. Yep, it was almost time. "Is that a feather...?" He had questions but at the same time he didn't. Sometimes it paid to not know when it came to the general Hogwarts population.

HA!

Probably not the best behavior of prefect, especially in front of the headmaster, but she couldn't help herself. As she saw it, it was sort of his fault for setting the room up like this. Anyway, she was just going to shut up now and stand over here near the back here. You know, just in case the crazy was up at the front.

Aaaaand it was time.

Malachi drew his wand, lowering it slightly when Calrissian moved through the doorway. Had to say, thanks to the younger McCarthy, this ones reaction was put perfectly into context for him. It DID look like a mental institute in here.

"You." He said with a grin. "Didn't wanna tell you before you got here in case you decided not to show up. Now remember, this is for your own good."

No, but it really was time for the lesson to begin, all jokes aside. Malachi looked around at the students, doing a mental head count. When he was done counting, he flicked his wand in the direction of the door and watched it slam shut as it always did when it was time for the lesson to begin. Anyone that was late would not be getting in at all. He would deal with them later.

"Gather 'round everyone. It's time to begin the lesson. The first thing you'll notice now that the door's closed is how much this room absorbs sounds. It's soundproof, none of anything we do in here will get out. Is there a reason for this? None particularly, outside of getting you all used to a more silent environment. In this lesson, I want you all to find an appreciation for silence and the silent approach to things."

Some may have already gotten the gist of where the lesson was going. Either way, "I have a question. Think about it. All answers are welcome. It's not something you'll find in the textbooks that I hope you didn't tug along with you but rather you'll find the answer in daily experiences or the experiences of others. What are things that can be accomplished silently? Can you name something that requires silence in order to be effectively accomplished or keep you safe?"

He could think of at least a dozen things right off the bat but it would be interesting to see where their brains took them and how widely they were allowing themselves to think.

OOC: The lesson has officially begun and the first question is up! Your character can answer either the first or the second or both questions if they feel so inclined. However you want to play it. I'll be moving this lesson on in roughly 24 hrs from the point of this post barring work getting in the way again. If you haven't joined yet, feel free to say your charrie was here all along...or have them banging on the door begging to be let in. Whatever floats your boat.
