Warming up was something Leontius undertook mainly alone. His ritualistic approach ensured his muscles were ready and his mind was sharp before he united with his team to practice drills and discuss strategies. That was how he liked it. That was how it was always going to be.
He didn't take much notice of the other players on the pitch. Nor did he really hear the roar of the crowds as the spectators took their seats. Leon was in his mind. In his zone. Finding the inner peace and strength he needed to execute a perfect game.
India were a fierce opponent. And he talked a big talk. But Leon was nervous as he performed some solo drills on the ground. His mom was somewhere in that crowd. He knew as his fist closed around the necklace he usually kept hidden under his shirt. His mom was probably struggling to get to grips with the omnioculars. Wishing they were binoculars. Focusing on him.
As was he. Leontius turned his attention back inward, taking some grounding breaths before straightening up. Flashing the bright blue eyed smile at the crowd, he nodded greeting as he approached his team.
