PERSONALITY
Quiet. Introspective. Enigmatic. Romantic. Loyal. Moderately optimistic. Creative. Musician. Writer. Poetic. Dedicated. Independent. Diligent. Kind. Intelligent. Stubborn. Dreamer.
Some describe Jasper as mysterious and enigmatic, but really he's just quiet and keeps a lot of thoughts to himself. He has a naturally brooding expression, as he's often deep in thought. Jasper is a self-confessed romantic, and believes in the power of emotions. He has been described as pretentious, mostly by other students he encountered at university and at Hogwarts, but he believes that's a little unfair. He simply likes what he likes and doesn't censor it if others criticise him for it. He is generally quite solitary, but a good friend to the ones he has. Jasper tries not to let negativity rule him but he also knows that there is a point where optimism crosses the border into foolishness.
Jasper is hugely interested in reading, writing, poetry and music, but one of his biggest fascinations has always been that of prophecies and Seers, hence his current career path. HISTORY
Jasper was born Leonardo Gaspard Beaufort to a muggleborn mother, Isabelle Beaufort (née Printemps) and a pureblood father, Leonardo Thomas Beaufort. He was born in Lyon, France, and has dual French-British nationality, as his father is a British citizen and his mother is a French citizen. Jasper, like his father and grandfather before him, is referred to by his middle name; in France he is Gaspard, but when in the UK he goes by the name Jasper.
Jasper was the only child of his parents, and was soft and sensitive at heart from his very earliest years. He was also interested in music, poems, and books, and preferred to read about adventures rather than have them himself. Growing up, Jasper’s time was split between France and England, as his parents would often take him to visit his grandparents over the summer, winter, and spring holidays.
Instead of attending school, Jasper was homeschooled for his primary education, which suited him just fine. When it was time to go to school, he had to choose between Hogwarts and Beauxbatons, and he chose the latter. After a few years at school, however, Jasper decided that he wanted to pursue studies in English Literature at a muggle university, and transferred to Hogwarts in an exchange programme for his final year so as to acclimatise to the United Kingdom. He also achieved several muggle qualifications that would allow him to gain entry to a muggle university.
After he graduated from Hogwarts, Jasper studied English Literature at the University of York, but his heart wasn’t entirely in it. After graduating with an upper second class degree, he went back to France to work as an apprentice to a Seer, but it soon transpired that this Seer was a fraud. Jasper reported the authorities and left the false Seer’s tutelage, but was now without a job. After going back to live with his parents for a few months, Jasper moved back to the England once again, and got himself a job as a library assistant at the British Magical Library.
In December 2094, Jasper applied for a job at the British Ministry of Magic, relying on his interest in prophecies and his aptitude in Divination to get him work in the fabled Hall of Prophecy. He succeeded, and has worked as an Orb Conductor in the Department of Mysteries since then, though naturally he keeps the nature of his work secret from family and friends. In September 2096, he began studying part-time at Wizarding University for a degree in Metallurgy/Metal Charming. He fits this around his job by taking night classes, and is due to graduate in 2101.
