If she had been asked, all Ailis would have said if anyone had enquired about her opinions of the term so far was that she was utterly bored of all the rules. She knew she was theoretically taking it infinitely better than her cousin was, but then she had several years on Caoilainn regarding Hogwarts experience. The younger kids definitely had a harder time, although she’d had her share of troubles when it came to the ridiculous rules. That and she’d gotten good at reversing the boil hex, seeing as she would rather go for a run when she wanted to. Not be woken up at the crack of dawn every morning. Little rebellions were fun when you knew how to survive them relatively unscathed.

There had been an obvious eyeroll at the Hufflepuff nearby as they’d all headed into the Great Hall for dinner, but she’d amused herself listening to the attempt at a one-sided conversation as well. At least, until she’d stepped fully into the room only to be met with a warm fog. “What new insanity does Scrimgeour have for us this time?,” she murmured for whomever was nearby to hear. Little rebellions.

Or maybe it was a big rebellion, as the fog cleared to reveal a war zone and she’d instinctively slipped her wand into her hand at the ready. At least she knew how to survive, thanks to Aunt Kendall and Uncle Patrick, although this definitely didn’t look like a zombie invasion.

The chaos hadn’t been too much of a surprise to Ree. Not when she’d lived through all the previous attempts that had been made for Voldemort’s return, and Harry Potter’s life. Not that she’d really gotten involved in any of it until this year. Of course, it had been pretty hard not to get involved when this term had not only involved active torture of students but a distinct interest in the heirloom of her own House. Once Harry had gotten back to the castle anyhow, although she’d found herself involved much earlier than that.

As the Slytherins had been ordered to leave, she’d found herself watching them go, noting when that one boy (Nott, she thought) split away before the doors had swung closed and effectively barred her from seeing more. Now, all that was left was defending herself. Actually, she was defending Hogwarts itself, and maybe whatever that stood for.
