PERSONALITY
The one word that can best be used to describe Royland? Unlucky. He battles against anxiety and depression on a daily basis, but tends to maintain a positive attitude towards life despite bad things happening to him. For example - two days before he was supposed to start Quidditch camp when he was 11, he fell off his broom and broke not one, but BOTH of his arms and couldn't go. He generally gets overlooked for promotions or relationships, ends up paying too much for something, or gets food poisoning at that new restaurant - but he tries to keep a smile through it all. He frequently uses humor to try and make the situation better, often referring to himself jokingly as "the failure" of the three Gladin children, or being part of the "spiral squad" when things are just not looking up for him no matter what he does.

He is a genuinely pleasant fellow, and very loyal to his family and friends. He builds a support system around himself wherever he is so that no matter what happens, he has someone to fall back on when life gets tough. He is a hard worker, but likes to keep a good work-life balance as well.

HISTORY
The oldest of three, Royland's parents pushed him to do great things as they did with all their children - and while he was never a BAD student, he never made Prefect or Quidditch Captain, and graduated with decent but not amazing grades. Rather than go to university as his parents wanted him to, he decided to simply take a job at the Ministry in France. He worked at reception, hoping to move up in the Ministry and eventually work his way to a higher level position.

However, two things happened to caused Royland to fall deep into a spiral of anxiety and depression. The first - his parents moved out of state. The golden child of the family, Jimmy, had been accepted to Healer school in London. Wanting to be close to him, the family moved, but he decided to stay behind. He thought he would be able to survive on his own, but the struggle to pay his own bills and rent was too much. Second, his boss took out his frustrations in life on the young, eager employee. Nothing he did was ever good enough for the older man, and he was belittled at just about every turn. His entire opinion of the department turned sour, and getting out of bed to go to work was a struggle. Finally, after having enough emotional abuse from his boss, he quit, sold half of his belongings, and went back to his family.

His parents were more than happy to help him move back home, and after a few months of therapy and learning to cope with his new diagnoses, Royland felt ready to get back to work. He decided to go with what he knew best - being the happy, smiling face you first seen when entering the office. His "quarter-life crisis" is bringing about a new beginning and he is eager to see where it all leads!
