| Stuck inside with Sirius | *Splish-Splash* | bamBAM | ☁ Spooktacular ☁ If Noble looked a little awkward as he wandered around, it was because he felt awkward with his arm floating in the air like this. Normally he’d have his hands together casually behind his back as he meandered and check up on his students, but with one hand still tied up, the other was left hanging somewhat. It was a good job there were plenty of distractions as the students started their task.
Actually, scratch the good on that.
He first came the Gryffindor prefect…whose fingers were looking a little on the pale side. “I suggest you loosen it off and try again, Abraham,” Noble said over the boy’s shoulder. “Losing a few fingers due to lack of circulation won’t do much for your quidditch career.” Although he wouldn’t complain if he wanted to give the Hufflepuffs a helping hand to the Cup. Talking of the Hufflepuff quidditch team, Captain Bel got a nod as he meandered past, as did the Head Girl. Both seemed to be doing capably enough.
Unfortunately the next duo his gaze fell on were doing less well. The mess on Zoryn’s arm couldn’t be doing much in the way of compression at all, and Noble eyed the Gryffindor at her false praise. It wasn’t looking good, not in the slightest. “Zoryn isn’t a gift, Lucas. You can just tuck the ends in, rather than that big lumpy bow.” But then things took another step backwards, and Noble grumbled under his breath. “Five points from Gryffindor for elevating the arm when Professor Baldvinsson explicitly said not to, Lucas.” He looked to the boy’s partner now, before simply shaking head and tutting under his breath. It was enormously tempting to take another five from Zoryn for telling an innocent first year such outrageously tall tales, but he refrained. For now.
That done, he pursed his lip as he watched some of the other pairings: Derf and Rylee, Maxton and Zachary, Penny and Benjamin. What Hanna was doing with a pile of dirt for Madison, he couldn’t quite fathom…and he’d been about to investigate when he heard mention of broken bones from Anna and Lucas Choi. “RICE is for soft tissue injuries,” Noble clarified. “That is, damage to your muscles, ligaments and tendons. Think sprains and strains.” Not broken bones. “And if Stella had broken her wrist, Lucas, wobbling it around like a blancmange would be the last thing you should do.” He grumbled under his breath. He had told them to bring their common sense, had he not?
Moving swiftly on, and he’d found Kaitlyn…who apparently had taken his words about it not being too tight to heart. He’d been about to say something, but Juniper had intervened. Well, that was fine by him. He simply nodded at the Ravenclaw and moved on past Natalie, Daisy and Archer to Josephine…who hadn’t even started. “Chop chop, Josephine!” he barked. “We haven’t got all day.” He’d already lost some of his lunch to Zoryn. He’d be a grumpy potions professor indeed if his lunch was delayed any further. “Focus, Trinetta,” Noble said as he next came to the young Ravenclaw struggling with the glacius charm. “Think about an icy breath extending through your arm and out the tip of your wand.” And for this usage, it was actually a good thing if it wasn’t a completely freezing cast. As Haraldur had said, you didn’t want to give yourself frostbite. Although, it seemed like Beth hadn’t been listening to that bit of class. Unfortunately for the Slytherin, her question had caught Noble’s attention from across the semicircle, and wasn’t best impressed with that cast…or the shivering that followed. “Five points from Slytherin for trying to give yourself frostbite, Anabeth,” he replied sternly. “But yes, ferula provides a splint too. Ideal to support broken bones, but often a bit too much for a soft tissue injury where a little movement is usually a good thing.”
As Haraldur brought the class back together, talking a bit about rehabilitation, Noble too meandered his way back to the front. He watched quietly as the flying instructor wrapped up this section of the class, before stepping forward to take over for their next practical. “There are many useful healing potions, many of which you’ll get to attempt brewing over your Hogwarts career.” He surveyed the class a moment, making sure he had their attention, before continuing. “Today we’ll be making a simple bruise paste. You’ll find this particular variant is less potent than other recipes, especially those commercially available. However, it’s relatively quick and made with easy to find ingredients, so it’s a worthy addition to your repertoire.”
He moved towards his cauldron at the front of the class. “Your cauldron should already be warm from the bluebell flame. To it, add a cup of water and a well-packed half cup of arnica root. Let that seep for three minutes, before adding the loose petals of three dandelions.” All of which he would usually demonstrate…but that was a little easier said than done, with no workbench and his dominant arm still tied up. So hopefully they were all paying attention and could figure it out themselves. If not, they'd likely find themselves starting over before too long. “Off you go!”
He turned to Haraldur now, looking down at his arm expectantly. “If you wouldn’t mind…”
