Natasha walked back as fast as she could, glad she could easily count the flames at a glance. When she reached flame thirty, a small part of her wanted to just keep walking, but for all of her flaws, she was not a quitter. She was only human and had made a mistake, but that she would not let it define her. She would learn from it and move forward.
She hurried back, a little winded, but getting back just before the class started. ”Good evening Professor Fletcher.” She said politely, trying to hide how shaken she was. She wanted to explain, but didn't think it was wise so she left it at the greeting and went right back to her assigned spot.
She listened carefully, taking in every word the Professor said. She felt shaken all over again when she realised she would have to give an answer in front of everyone, and feared the consequences if she gave an unfavourable answer.
She timidly raised her hand. ”Some ancient muggle cultures would use pyromancy during sacrifices. They believed the images they saw in the flames were messages from the gods. Based on what they saw, they would determine if their sacrifice was favourable or not, and what blessings or hardships the gods would be sending them. I don't know enough to know if those specific instances had any accuracy, but I believe everyone is born with a given skill set. If someone truly has the gift for pyromancy, then I believe it can be used accurately.” She explained, feeling faint again. |
