Bettie did not greet the professor to be rude. Some people in settings like this find it descriptive at least in the muggle world. Note to self: Professor Fletcher one of them so always greet him.
Bettie did not mind walking and she rather enjoyed to nice night by the lake and the bluebell flames where cool. So going for a walk to count 30 of the bluebell flames no problem. Off she went to count the bluebell, 1, 2, 3, and so on until she got to the 30th. Bettie then turned around head no back and then and greeted the professor with "Good evening Professor Fletcher. Sorry for not greeting you before in the muggle world some people in settings like this find it descriptive and I did not want to be rude. I will remember from now on you are not one of those people and greet you properly". With that being said Bettie went back to stand in front of her log.
