Lucas's eyes widened when she mentioned how busy the place is and he nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, it's crazy, isn't it? I mean.... you can hardly move in here." It was not the exact truth but it was kind of the truth and that's what mattered because it was still true!
So she was shorter than him? It wasn't by much really, but it still made his chest inflate slightly because he was a little taller than someone who wasn't one of his younger brothers. "I don't think you will," he said, shaking his head as if he knew things, "Maybe one day you'll come back here and your head will be taller than the seat and no one will think your seat isn't taken." Smile.
Something Lucas was starting to realise was how much this girl was talking. Not too much, but enough to keep the conversation going which was something he was happy about because if it was left to him, they'd be sitting in silence right now. Or, well, he'd be sweating and stammering a lot. "It was! It was measuring everywhere it can. I mean... why does it need to measure my nose?! That's just nasty!" He shook his head as he scooped up some more of his ice cream. "But Emma said it was important and... I mean, you get a wand!" Which was the coolest part.
Nodding, the eleven year old turned to start pulling out as many napkins as he can. Not one, not two but a whole bunch! He then started handing them over to the girl sitting opposite him while saying, "Maybe wrap it around the cone so your hand doesn't get sticky?" In the meantime, he was going to start wiping at the drops on the table. "Uh, I never asked..... who are you?" .... Pause. "I mean name. Your name. What's your name?"
