It felt a bit odd to enter the shop alone, right behind a father and son, but Alastair’s oh-so-responsible guardian had stepped in dung of some kind and was outside attempting to scrape it off his shoes. That was fine. This would go faster—and better—if he did it alone. Or so he’d told himself, until he heard the words of encouragement and saw the other boy’s excitement. He shoved his hands into his pockets and waited for the tape measure to be free, at which point he stepped up for his measurements. Some of them made sense, but others…

… why was it measuring the width of each of his teeth? Alastair started to protest, but stopped when the tape gave a menacing snap of its tail. Only when it whisked off to help someone else did he reach up and rub at his gums, grumbling to himself. |
