Lydia followed Tinka through the cupboard in the laundry room, crouching down a bit even though she was small for her age. She still wasn't as small as the house elf.
Following Tinka's soft footsteps, Lydia eventually stepped out from behind the portrait into what looked suspiciously like the 5th floor corridor. Wait a second...she didn't remember climbing any stairs, and the laundry room was in the dungeons! You're at a school for magic. What do you expect? she chided herself. Really, she'd have to learn to stop being so surprised at things after a while.
"I made it, Tinka!" said Lydia, brushing some cobwebs from her robes. "Where to next? Also, I'm definitely remembering that passageway, what a shortcut!"
Still curious about the tiny little elf, Lydia thought of something. "If you don't mind me asking, Tinka, how old are you? Do house elves live longer than humans?"
Happy that Miss Lydia had made the trip safely, and had not gotten scared in the dark, Tinka smiled and started walking down the corridor as she spoke.
"Tinka take Miss Lydia down corridor. Tinka go this way." She pointed ahead with her whisk.
Upon hearing the girls question, Tinka stopped walking and turned to face Miss Lydia.
"Tinka not know such things. Tinka is a good House-elf. Tinka do what she is told." She wasn't sure why age mattered to the studentsies. Tinka could clean when she was little and Tinka could clean when she was much older. Tinka would do her job and that was all that mattered.
With that, she turned and started walking further down the corridor, whisk still in hand, and noting that she would need to soon return and remove some cobwebs that had collected. Toddles must have been having more parties and neglecting his work again.
