"Your Mum has a wonderful way with written prose." That was all. But for Quinn, as Beth knew, that was practically gushing. "I'm looking forward to," her eyes returned briefly to the book on the table, "her next book." Was that it?

So, this was her? Quinn glanced back up at Eria, more curious this time than scrutinizing. This was Beth's latest hero? Honestly, Quinn could see why this time. There have been times in the past, when Quinn hadn't been able to grasp what Beth saw in her then current hero. Eria, she understood.

Quinn was still watching Eria curiously as Eria watched her back, when she mentioned manipulation should be a skill that everyone woman should know. She looked away, staring off into the stacks of books without actually seeing them, and pondered on that. There was truth to it to some degree, Quinn could feel that, but it wasn't black and white either. "Perhaps." Manipulation also involved drawing people closer, even temporarily, in order to persuade them with flirting, the way Beth did it at least, and unspoken promises. That wasn't exactly Quinn, though. She preferred most people keeping a health distance, and for that, her apparently naturally intimidating demeanor seemed quite effective.

The compliment, because Quinn could feel that was what it truly was, got a pleased smile. "I might be the first in my family in many generations that didn't get placed in Slytherin. It was a surprise when I wasn't." Her tone added that she would have considered that preferable. At the same time, she could the traits inside her that landed in her Ravenclaw. And Ravenclaw was worlds better than being put in Gryffindor, or much worse, Hufflepuff. "Still, the tower's not so bad."
Few people this girl's age had ever read her mother's work, so that they both seemed to know it, particularly the young claw...it was a surprise for the brunette. "She does...it always makes listening to her interesting as well." She didn't like overt gushing, so the girl's reaction was rather preferable. When she did encounter fans of her mother's work, they were often too much but "Quinn" was it? She was tolerable.

When she said she was waiting on the next chapter from her mother's vaults...Eria caught the eye wander and a fleeting close-lipped smile may have flitted and passed across her lips. "Yes, that's a rough draft of it. She lets me check and cross reference before she goes to print. Its to help me hones my skills as well, and to give opinion and such." It wasn't often she spoke candidly about her mother's work, but Quinn selected the right tone and statement to prompt a full response. With Eria, you generally just had to ask the right question.

"At least you have air? If someone stinks up your common room you can let the windows open and use a good wind spell to clear it out." Optimism was rare in the older snake's world, she didn't share it too freely. Couldn't let people get their hopes up about her, now could she?

Beth watched Quinn and Eria for a moment before taking one of the offered conjured chairs.

”oh trust me – we’d all have had such a great time had she been a snake with me…we still will, obviously…but, like…its not the same” because it wasn’t the same, Quinn was like…kilometers away in the towers…it wasn’t fair.

Beth of course was better at the drawing people in aspect of manipulation. This was only because she really liked drawing people in. If Beth were like anything in nature she likely be some kind of cat. With the way their bodies slinked around the creatures she knew, could be a Tonkinese cat…or, really, it was hard to say. Almost anything could be it…but really, there was a part of her that wanted whatever creature she’d go for – if she went for one to be strong and cunning like a fox. ”probably smells rather fresh – and there aren’t the occasional rats…my dormmates’ pet rat escaped” she explained with a shrug.
Consider's baby snake's words thoughtfully then leans back. "Well, you won't spend 24/7 together and get sick of each other that way...and you get spy access to another house perhaps?" Think of the possibility baby snake, flex your ambitions.

Eria never revealed the true color of her scales...not even when she did like someone really. She didn't let people close enough to get crushes or think they loved her, it was just pain that neither her nor anyone needed to deal with. This was an educational institution, not a match making host.

When she mentioned the pet rat...Eria's eyes may have gotten slightly sheepish or distracted as she looked back down at her notes. For the other student's sake, hopefully there was a random stray rat last night. Because if not...well even if someone COULD trace that it was her hex, she wasn't apologizing OR buying them a new rat.
