Ewan walked hesitantly up to the shop he was told about. 'Ollivanders' was it? He couldn't quite remember. With a slight from on his face, he pushed open door gently and stepped in, his heart beat racing. Was it worry or anticipation? He wasn't quite sure. All he knew was this this was the thing he had been looking forward to...

With his heart threatening to jump out of his chest, he stepped forward into the large space ahead of him where the most peculiar thing awaited him. Floating in the space, somehow, was a measuring tape. With a crooked grin, he walked towards it with more confidence now, eagerly looking for the strings that kept it afloat. As he approached, the tape sprung to life. Twirling in the air with a flourish, it shot forward to meet Ewan as he entered the large space. Eyes wide, he froze as the measuring tape took the strangest of measurements, from the length of this arms to his height. After several minutes of silent, abrupt movements, the measuring had finished. To Ewan's delight, he could finally move up to the counter and wait for whatever came next.

How much stranger could it get? He thought, secretly worried about what was to come in this strange shop

This was what Blake had feared. His only son leaving him for a strange new world. He had always known his son was... somewhat different to the other children in school, having taught so many himself. Never did he think his son was a wizard and that he, Blake, would be accompanying him to a shop to purchase a magic wand. Blake stood, quietly at the back of the shop, taking everything in. From the floating measuring tape that measured his sons arm length and height to the faded wooden counter at the front that sat in front of stacks upon stacks of small, black packages. 'What a strange place' he thought as the measuring tape whizzed back to the counter. As the tape became motionless, he looked back at his son, the bright spark in his life, the beacon of light that helped him focus after the death of his wife. How could he let his son leave for a whole year?
