Apparently they hadn't noticed the contents of Jessa’s cauldron by vanished. Alas.
He supposed he could vanish everyone's that had decided to not listen carefully, but unfortunately that would mean over-running into morning break. HIS morning break. So, instead, with a grumble and a grunt, he raised his voice.
“If you haven’t already added the water, you should do that now.” There it was.
The displeased look on the man's face - although it seemed permanently printed on his face - was then directed at Daehyun, and it was the last thing he'd wanted. Even though he'd then addressed everyone, Daehyun turned into a deep shade of crimson at his grunts, like the professor had said them to him only.
He scared the living daylights out of Daehyun, to put it lightly.
Nodding at the indication, he'd finally added the two carefully measured cups of the icky pumpkin insides that he'd previously separated from all seeds, followed by a cup of water. The heat was just right, so he could finally breathe. SPOILER!!: new instructions ^^ Quote:

“You can also start chopping your bouncing bulb. These are fresh and not part of your standard kit, so please fetch one from the front.” He gestured to the lidded crate on the desk. “A bouncing bulb does just as its name suggests...bounces. Please do not start to prepare it until you have stunned it!” He did NOT want to have to be sending people to the Healer. “So first, a Stupefy,” which he demonstrated, “and then we’re going to peel off that outer purple layer and chop it finely with a silver knife.” Again, he did this using a peeler from his potions kit, before placing the bulb on his chopping board. “Good chopping is all about technique. Curl your fingers under and into a claw like this, and use your knuckles as a guide for the side of the knife. Push down smoothly with the blade for a safe clean cut.”
He really hoped they were paying attention. Some of their cutting skills had been woefully poor in previous lessons. His cat could probably do it better, honestly. "You need 100g of bouncing bulb. Weigh it out ready, but don't add it or the moths just yet." Did he have to be so-brutal?
Daehyun flinched when professor Noble crushed the poor moths as if they were some pests that annoyed him. Uttering a soft sorry buddies to the three moths he'd dropped into his mortar - yes, he knew they were dead, but did they have to be so barbaric? No! - he proceeded to crush them well, checking every once in a while until he was satisfied with the fine powder that he'd turned them into.
He couldn't hold back the grimace that spread across his face as he watched everything professor Noble did, something about the detailed technique of peeling and cutting a bouncing bulb unsettling him. Once given the instructions, Daehyun walked up to grab a bulb, and stared at it as it bounced on the workbench in front of him. He'd watched the professor closely enough to be able to repeat his movement and incantation, but he feared that he would accidentally stun someone else, with the way the bulb bounced.
... but then he remembered he sat at the very front, so the only possible victim would be the professor, and not even Merlin would be able to help him if that ever happened.
Pushing those thoughts to the very back of his head, he focused solely on the bouncing bulb, repeating a mantra of You can do it, you can do it, you can do it in mind. Pointing his wand and aiming for the bulb, he said, "Stupefy!" and thankfully, the bulb was no longer bouncing, but laid lifelessly in front of him. Good. Let the gruesome peeling begin. Pursing his lips and his eyebrows nearly meeting in concentration, Daehyun followed professor Noble's movements. He carefully peeled off the purple layer in small and hesitant movements, and then mirrored the man's chopping technique, a lot clumsier though, because he found it more difficult than it had first seemed. He was nearly done chopping using the odd technique, when-
... it was going to happen. He knew it would. He should've known better.
Muttering a soft "Aish," he stuck his freshly cut pinkie finger in his mouth, silently praying that the professor hadn't noticed him. He wasn't going to bleed to death, so no need to make a fuss over it. |
